How do I tile this wall?

Hi there! I could really use some advice. My tiler put my backsplash up but sadly he didn’t level the decorative tile and it’s off quite a bit. Difficult to see in pictures, I know. Anyhow, he’s taking it down and redoing it. My question is...do I go the same route (although smaller with the decorative tile area) or do something different? My options are 1) to go to the ceiling but where do I end near the door if I do that? And do I continue to the floor between the cabinet and sliding glass door? 2) Only tile from the bottom of the hood vent from window to window and make the decorative tile smaller while removing the tile from the outside of the windows? Or 3) Do away with the decorative tile and use the subway tile only but in a herringbone pattern? Thanks for any help!! 😁

I will be no help as i hate decorative tile behind stoves. IMO this look only works in huge Tuscan style kitchens and ideally in Tuscany. Also the other tile is already textured and very shiny and IMO was all you needed in that small space . BTW those lights are lighting the ceiling in a space where I see no other lighting so those need to be changed to something that has down lights to light the counter and LED bulbs in 4000K

Thanks for your input! I actually have an led light over each window, under cabinet lights on the opposite wall and I have another 5 led ceiling lights throughout the area. I just didn’t post that picture. I’m also dropping my pendant lights down 3 inches because I don’t care for them that high. I believe I will go from window seat to window seat with the subway tile and only tile under the hood vent between both windows and I plan to make the decorative tile smaller and more framed in so my pot filler will stand out. Fingers crossed for a great look. lol Thanks again!! ☺️

I would replace the inset tile with the same tile that you have elsewhere on your kitchen backsplash. No decorative tile inset at all. Your field tile is lovely and will add enough character to your space.

I would not do a decorative tile behind the stove. It's taking away from the lovely hood vent IMO.

With the shiplap detail on the pantry and hood vent, I'd choose a simple backsplash tile that's not linear (e.g. not subway tile). The grout lines with subway tile, or another linear tile, compete with the shiplap and make it look too busy.

Regardless of the actual tile you end up picking I’d tile that whole wall. Past the door. And to the ceiling. It gives for a much more finished polished look.

We might suggest getting rid of the accent tile and doing the same tile on the whole wall. Here is what we recently did for a client. Perhaps you'll end up liking it yourself.

Thank you so much!! This backsplash is beautiful and I wish I’d seen this before the rest of my subway tiles had gone up on the opposite wall because I would have liked this.
