outdoor ceramic pots

As I explore IOD projects, I find this that specifies terra cotta when in fact I'd LOVE to get the same effect on a huge, heavy, shiny, black outdoor ceramic pot. Need someone in the know who can assure me sandpaper, chalk paint, stamp and protective coating will work just fine on OUTDOOR ceramic. Just not finding 'permission' on the web.

My late husband used to say, "You can paint anything if you prime it first." I'd guess the shiny surface would have to be adequately sanded to take off the glossy finish, and primed.

I found the tutorial interesting, but I wondered if watering plants in those pots ruined the finished product.
