Kitchen cabinet delivery estimated 22 weeks

I just ordered my kitchen cabinets and was told by the KD due to global lumber shortages, labor, and shipping delays, it would be 5+ months for delivery. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this recently?

I placed a deposit on cabinets in February 2020 for a May delivery and did not receive them until October. One of the 6 delivery dates I was given was communicated as being so firm that my old kitchen was ripped out in preparation, and delivery was delayed two months from then with several more dates promised in the meantime. I hear things are worse now, even though many of the pandemic labor restrictions are being lifted, because of supply chain disruptions particularly with lumber. It had already been a tenuous season for lumber beginning in late 2019 due to unusual amounts of rainfall in areas that made it impossible for logging to proceed due to access issues in wet areas. Then the pandemic hit on top of that, and logging labor and mill labor were cut back. The full effects of the lumber shortages began to hit in summer of 2020. Supply and prices are not expected to begin to correct until 2022 according to some experts, and it could be longer due to home renovations and new home builds being postponed while people are waiting for the supply and price correction to occur.

I signed a contract last week with my custom cabinet maker for delivery in January.

talk of shortages is all over the business channels and sections of newspapers etc. Not only that...price hikes along with it. We have a couple small discretionary projects on our home but I will be waiting a year or more. I think there is a chance the prices will come back and level out. Nothing is certain, but my stance is hold off. There are probably people who had time to plan a project during pandemic and maybe just now learning about these effects but it has been pretty well broadcasted I had thought.

@herbflavor yeah it's a mixed bag where i'm located. big box stores have lots of things in stock or a few weeks out. seems hit and miss! half my appliances are in stock, and the other are ??? who knows when haha.

I gave up on my plan to use IKEA after hearing about their supply chain problems. Instead I am going with a one man shop who will gut the kitchen, build completely custom cabinets for me, install them, and finish out the rest of the kitchen. We just signed a contract and have agreed on a beginning of Oct. completion date.
