Can anyone identify this?

I am looking for the name of the purple "flower" in this picture. My husband said "Weed, chop it all down"! :( It is so pretty and I don't want to chop it down unless I really need to!

    Common name is Dame's Rocket and it escaped from colonial gardens a long time ago. It flowers in shades ranging from white to purple and much earlier in the season than garden phlox. If you like it, keep it, just don't let it seed about too much.
