Hex tile size recommendations?

Hi everyone

For our guest bath, we finalized all our tiles until we came across a slightly smaller Hex tile.

Tiled area is around 50sqft and the shower area another 15sqft (and will have the really smaller hex tiles) and the bath is well lit and medium sized.

For the bath floor, the 2 hex tiles, (both are white porcelain with veins) we are kind of stuck in between are a 9x9” and a 11x13”. Both look great but for a bathroom with 65-70sqft of walkable space and a 75” vanity, wondering if there is a stronger design sense (around using larger tiles to make a small space look bigger etc) to use smaller (9”x9” hex tiles) vs the slightly larger format (11”x13”).

the size isn't as important as the "pattern" I have a similar tile in my masterbath, we made sure to "connect" the veins ... as much as possible. DO NOT just put them down randomly. you'll appreciate the final product if you connect the veins. Just Sayin'

I think the smaller 9x9 would relate better to your smaller size shower tiles and also would give you more of the overall pattern of the hex especially if you have narrower sections maybe where the vanity or toilet is. Most importantly they could be less slippery with the additional grout as the tile itself would not be longer than the length of your foot!

This is great feedback! Glad to know about aligning the veins, it is a L shaped bath so I can have the contractor make sure they can align the veins.

I do like the point about this being less slippery potentially though both are Matte tiles for that purpose, we specifically did not want to install polished tiles

The smaller hex is more proportionate, but what size are the wall tiles? Don't make yourself crazy trying to align the "veins", it's the fastest way to ruin the look. A good installer will work from multiple boxes to install them.

The bathroom floor area just had a vanity and textured dry wall around it. The walk-in shower area will have 12x24 tiles on the wall just for the shower area (3 walls, 3x8’, 5x8’ and 3x8’)
