Rose Standard - Staking

last modified: 5 years ago

We got some pretty wicked rainy winds last year...and even my top heavy Limelight Tree got uprooted and a few large stems snapped off due to both weight and the angle of how it landed down. One of those stems lost was a main branching stem (it lost alot of it's framework on one side). Even though this was not staked as a example for this post, well rooted in, but the winds / large blossoms/top heavy was enough to uproot the dang thing

Fast forward to Rose Standard. I'm looking at them. The main stems on these look very small. The top where it's grafted got me thinking as well.....

I presume rose standards will need good staking for at least 4 years till it's rooted in well to take hold. How common or not have you lost a standard due to either the graft either freezing to death, or canes being whipped in a Noreaster rain.
