I started a 'Gold Flame' from a rhizome looking like that. Mostly out of forgetfulness, I let it set out and overdry. I later just put it in another pit of Sansevieria where it grew into a baby 'Gold Flame'.

That looks like a nicer, fatter, healthier rhizome than I planted. It might be faster than it, too.

Did you cover the whole rhizome or leave an end sticking out?

is this little piece the only Yellowstone you have? i would hate to think you have lost almost all of it. I do think you can get it started again. Just as Shana said, I would bury the whole piece lying down sideways. let us know how it goes. the weather has been crazy this spring, i’m just now getting plants outside. lots of repotting to do.

Hi Barb! I still have some of it but most of it is gone. All of my Lauren is gone. It has been a bad year for my sans, I lost a lot of plants.

Nancy tell me what you would like to replace, in case I have some plants to share. I am going to gradually repot quite a few.

Thanks Barb. ♡ That is very nice of you and I appreciate the offer but I don't think it's a good idea to add more sans when I can't even get what I'm battling under control.

I unpotted some when I put them outside,, rinsed off whatever it is with the hose. I think I am going to dunk them in some Bioadvanced even though it doesn't contain imidacloprid anymore. Then repot.

I might have to do that with some of my larger potted sans, it's a nightmare.

Oh gosh, that white stuff has invaded your collection. What a shame. I have never seen it. Could it be root mealies? Well keep me in mind whenever your war is over!

I think it could be root mealies. My Moonshine had it bad a few years ago, I haven't put it outside and thought it was gone. I had a 10 inch full pot, noticed some were yellow, they just fell out of the pot. I unpotted the rest and the roots were gone, just dried up. The last time I up-potted it the whole pot was filled with roots.

When I repot them I will trim off the rest of the dried roots. I also found out the Bioadvanced (which used to be Bayer) has two different formulas of 3 in 1, one with imidacloprid and one without. I just had a "chat" with a customer service representative and told him that a product with the same name and different formulas is deceiving. I can only find it without imidacloprid and it does nothing.

Nancy, I'm a little late here. Just started to look around again. I know you cleaned up the rhizome best you can. If you have any 'Rootone'. Dust it with it to help keep it from rotting. I would plant it in pure perlite. Keep a little moist but hold back on the water until you see some thing like new roots or so.

I had a rhizome that un-potted a small sans right out of the pot twice. I removed it and planted it up all by itself. That thing was over 8 inches!! Left half stick out of the pot. After a few weeks it started to turn green but nothing. Then almost 3 months go buy, a new sprout out of the side started to grow but nothing ever out of the big rhizome.

This is before the first re-potting that it thru the plant right back out in the air again.

Nancy, once you see something happening, move to better soil. Let me know what you may need in replacements. My Lauren and Yellowstone are in low supply. I have a nice Asahii or Gold Flame if needed.

That is cool how you did get another plant from underneath. Maybe some will pop out of the top eventually.

Just an update for my yellowstone rhizome, I noticed today it has popped up, planted June 6.

Nancy, for mealies I take plants out in the yard and hose off with a hard, fine spray, being sure to spray at all angles to get into every nook and cranny. I don't find chemicals to be very effective on mealies, systemics might be a little better than sprays. It's great to see your new plant emerging, you apparently did everything right.

Hi Russ! I am not sure it's mealy, it doesn't look like regular mealy bug. Around the base there's small rice like stuff, even under the soil. On the leaves are flat white round things with a brown dot. I have tried washing them with water but it doesn't do much. Here is a closeup of what is on the leaves.

Nancy, I just started to use this spray for fungus and rot which is a secondary infection. I mix Ortho MAX Garden Disease Control Concentrate, 16 oz. (amazon prime $14) with Sevin liquid into a spray bottle and give it a drench once a week till you see progress. Will not hurt to add a tiny amount of imidacloprid (Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect Control) in the mix. That concentrate will last me several years to come.

Hard to tell from the picture but you might have it under control and the damage is done. Only new growth will be free and good looking.

Nancy, it still looks like a terrible case of mealies but then it's hard to tell from pics. Does it wipe off? A hard, fine spray from the hose doesn't blow it away?

Stush that all sounds like a powerful mix. Sometimes you have to use the nuclear option if the peashooter doesn't work.
