That's Sea Monster to the left; it has a number of seedlings underneath.

Yes, the green leaf part is a hosta. I've heard they can grow in crevices, but I've never had it happen here. You must be somewhere with a good amount of rain.

also a conifer growing out of it ... though the seed confuses me.. so maybe not ... but its not part of the hosta is the point

I don’t think I have ever ha a seedling from a nearby hosta.......or maybe I just pull them out thinking they are weeds. In my yard I’m sure they are.......weeds, I mean....... :-)

The conifer is most likely a loblolly pine.

Although when I first spotted this, prior to close inspection, it sure looked like a hosta scape and bud.
