It sounds like you will have blooms much sooner in West Virginia than you had in New York. We got a bit of rain yesterday, and it was sorely needed. I'm hoping for more today.

Yes, it does seem earlier for you to be getting scapes. That's nice. Sorry to hear about your tree. Was it in the ground long before it died?.............Maryl

How exciting to have your first scapes in your new digs!! Is it in the ground? You are probably going to have some of that trial and error with your trees but it is fortunate nurseries as a rule do guarantee plantings for a while!!

Sorry about the loss of your tree, but nice the nursery made good on it. And good news about scapes already!

Sorry about your magnolia. Hopefully, you will be successful in getting one to grow in the spot you want.

Hooray for scapes. It's interesting that you are just seeing scapes. We have been seeing scapes for a week or two and we are in zone 6a. From my observation (which may be totally wrong) the country seems to heat up from the west to the east. We are ahead of many growers in Ohio, for example, that are in a similar zone. Of course, it makes sense since zones are all about winter lows, not length of season.

So happy for scapes, Julia! Such a pain to have the tree fail but good that they replace it. You will apparently have an earlier start to your season., Rocks Cry Out is a good plant and I am glad it is performing for you.

kay earlier

Thanks all for the comments. All the potted plants I brought from NY are all in the ground now. I do think our season here will be different than NY by about a month. We shall see.

When we bought the trees (2 magnolias, 1 Japanese Red Maple, 1 Kwanza Cherry )they all looked healthy and doing fine so far. Been in the ground for several weeks now. Watered according to the nursery instructions.
