The article was interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about the "quilt shop quality" fabrics. I used to participate in a lot of "I Spy" fabric swaps. I always felt cheated when someone sent in lousy fabric, when I had sent in good fabric.

bkay, I think we've all been burned in one way or another in swaps. I haven't done any swapping for a long time.......and don't plan to start again, either. I made the post mostly because I had never seen a turtle made this way. :-)

IMO: I agree that good fabric doesn't have to come from a quilt shop. I might be able to afford it when/if they have a 75% off sale. Used cotton clothing from thrift stores......men's/boy's cotton shirts, blouses, dusters......the fabric is still good so I'll use it. That's a good amount of fabric for 50 cents or $1. How many 'memory' quilts are made from used clothing? I've been blessed with friends who have given me a lot of fabric, but if I feel some aren't up to my standards, I have no qualms about using it as a foundation for strips. For the most part, that is few and far between.

My comment was about the phrase, "quilt shop quality". I have found that phrase most often in doing swaps. I have to admit that the swaps that use that terminology usually have better quality fabrics (that was was on groups.io). I guess that the ones where I was burned were mostly on QuiltingBoard. They have a rule that you cannot specify a certain quality fabric, so I guess I shouldn't be griping.

I'm not crazy about that block. I agree with Sharon. I feel a connection with the original reasons for quilt making. Maybe that's why I love scrappy quilts.
