Can't tell you much more than it is a Japanese maple, Acer palmatum. Many cultivars will produce red samaras in spring that ripen to more of a dull tan or brown. But there are dozens of green leaved cultivars and without some specific distinguishing feature, it is pretty much impossible to tell them apart. Could very well be an example of the straight species also.

All Japanese maples get good fall color but it is not always red. Could be gold, a peachy-apricot color, orange, red or sometimes bronze. Or a mix. Reds do tend to predominate, though.

Thankyou again gardengal. Well, I'll just have to wait and see what happens in the fall. It looks so pretty right now with the green leaves and pink samaras.

Good Afternoon Garden Mist. I grow and study Japanese Maple trees for the last 20 + years. I have grown over 600 different varieties. This photo is difficult to determine the variety because we cannot see the leaf shape and the serrated margins. There are a lot of factors that go into my detective work such as: What is the leaf size? (your tree is of the Palmatum group)

Where you live (the growing zone) Where you bough it. (at a garden center in your area or on line) What was the Spring color...Here is one of my photos for my upcoming books.

Looks like an Amur maple with those red samura seeds! I have one in my back yard!

Amur maples do not have leaves that look like those in the OPs photo. Acer ginnala has 3 lobed leaves - the OP's pic is showing at least 5 lobes.
