The drainage for this container is what is supposed to be?

The single pre-drilled hole comes capped with a rubber stop. But as you can see this drainage hole Is a couple of inches above the base. So as far as I can foresee one could have approximately 2 inches of water in the bottom with nothing being able to drain out. Is that what the manufacturer intended? What say you....drill a couple more at the very bottom?

I imagine the stopper is so you can use it as a cachepot if you wish.

i would call it a reservoir system ... no idea if thats a real term ...

it would depend on your media .. the plants.. and where you are putting it ... imo ...

if this were a hanging basket in full sun with too many plants in it.. there might be no downside to such ... might help when the pot needs watering twice a day ....

in the house with a plant that doesnt need that much water .. then i can see a downside ...

same goes for more holes.. in the house.. potential PIA .. outdoors.. where it doesnt matter.. riddle it with holes.. who cares ...

proper drainage is as much about how you water ... as it is about holes or media.. etc.. you can adjust to whatever you are using ... given enough experience ....

btw.. i have no clue why you would need or use a rubber stopper .. got to think there is some logic there.. but it escapes me right now ....

As someone who gardens in containers a lot - I've got maybe 50-60, most of them pretty good size - I would drill additional drainage holes in the bottom.

I think I would drill more holes in it as well. Maybe this was made to be more of a cache pot??? I guess it's better to have too few holes and add more than too many lol. I've gotten pots where there are only a few holes, but there are little circles on the bottom which seem to be guides to drill more holes. Talking plastic pots, of course.

yes drill more holes for sure and I have well over 200 plus plants, succulents, trees( fruit and japanese maples) in containers.

Yup. I did drill. I just thought it was a bit odd that the pot was designed to have a hole (heck even with a seemingly useless "stopper") leaving a large "reservoir" for water.

I have seen many pots like that this year and wonder what they were thinking with that design. I too would worry about all that water sitting a the bottom. I would have to drill more holes. I do love the outside design on them. What did you decide to plant in them?

Just a thought, many pots DON'T have holes or have a stopper so you can use them for container water gardening.
