I don't recall who makes the sink but it's not Kohler- it's the very first thing I bought. (right at beginning of COVID)...and it sat while we waited to start the remodel. Purchased online but can't find my receipt. Sorry that I'm no help.

My 1952 bathroom! Except my tile is gray with Chinese Red edges. I have a separate tub/ shower, but the shower is small. I want to redo it in black/white with black fixtures. My vanity/sink set up is exactly yours!

I have to ask about your interim project - did you stencil the floor? And how did it hold up? I also think you did a nice job at both stages!

Yes, I stenciled the floor. It held up for about a year, then started chipping off in spots. This after I initially applied several coats of primer, then the stencil (regular latex paint) followed by several coats of water based polyurethane (which I reapplied every 6 months). It may have been due to the original tile which was extremely shiny & smooth…or just the fact that the bathroom was used a lot by my teenager. In any event, I’d do it again because it really upgraded the look for the couple years I needed it to. I bought the stencil off Etsy.

As far as cost, the final was $8k. But keep in mind my husband was able to do all the work (with help from his cousin who’s a plumber!) I purchased tub, shower doors, faucet, toilet, sink, & shower hardware online from Build.com (great customer service, shipping & you can work directly with a bathroom specialist who we found extremely helpful); tile from Lowe’s & Floor & Decor. Window from Home Depot Add’l decorative stuff from Wayfair.. We also added a heated floor (my favorite part) which came from Amazon. Our house is a modest ranch style & not our “forever” home so we never intended to go crazy with super high end finishes. We are happy with the look, quality & function of the space.

While your new updated version is divine, I do like the interim bathroom as well. There’s something about those old tiles, fixtures, etc. that are so fun and full of vintage personality. Love the shape of the sink area that juts out. Now I do like the inside of the new door, super cool idea of putting that design into the recesses. Is that a paper or a vinyl piece? Very nicely done remodel and it sure helps when hubby and others are so handy to help keep cost at a minimum.

Looking at vintage & USING vintage on a daily basis is different!🤣 True the original tile color was nice, but the bump-out sink did not work in that small aisle. And the fixtures were not working great, in fact all the plumbing was updated! It’s vinyl wallpaper - so easy & really gave me the look/feel I was going for! Thanks!!

Cute! And thanks for all the info…I always had a hunch that stenciling floors would be a bandaid type project to hold one over until the next project. It’s suggested a lot here and I’ve never actually known anyone with real life experience with it.

@Theresa Wells, great job! I have to ask - did you paint the words on the inside of the door, or did they come like that?? I looooove that! and have never seen anything like that. Love seeing something so unique. And love the thoughts of positive words hovering around you when you open a closet door or wherever... I want to do this somewhere! Please tell me more!
