What Lacey said. You can divide them any time.

so what if you lose a bloom cycle.. you do what you gotta do.. when you have time to do it ..

besides.. in this scenario,.. you have others that will bloom on time... so who cares if one plant wont ...

also.. flowering might depend on how far you are going with dividing ... if just in half.. maybe it still will bloom ... if down to 100 separate pieces... no bloom for you ...

just do it.. learn thru experience.. report back ....

now go dig a hole ... and forget about last month ....

Pretty much any time -- they're tough as nails. Even if the foliage goes downhill after dividing, fresh will fill in in relatively short time. Plus, who grows lamb's ear for the blooms? I grow Helene von Stein, which is a non-flowering variety -- they throw a singular flower maybe once every couple years.

I think the blooming versions of LE are just more work. I have them but prefer Helen VS . Bigger, better felt, less cutting back the not so attractive blooms.

Thanks for the advice, all! @Marie Tulin, I honestly don't like the blooms, either, it messes up the whole scale of the garden. But they were a gift from the MIL last year, and we're very close, so I pretend to love them :-) LOL

oh so sorry.. my dogs were my best garden buddys ...

and yikes on parental and inlaw parental gifts ...

my former inlaws.. bought me the invasive pear tree .. crikey ...

and my dad kept bringing me the not quite invasive ... but intensive seeders to my house... juniperous virginiana ... [thats was a pun.. if you see it ...]

@ken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5, my boy loved gardening with me, too! He would see me digging with my trowel, and that's all he needed to jump in and start digging right along with me! LOL

I'm not sure that he helped quite as much as he thought he did, but he sure enjoyed trying!

I'm really gonna miss that dog, he truly changed my life.

So sorry to hear about your dog. Each time a furry friend, cat or dog, dies they take a part of my heart.

But as far as the lamb's ears go, I too dislike the blooms and i grow Helen von Stein, also known as Big Ears, and they send up very few blooms--which I cut off immediately. I think the blooms are ugly.
