Need sofa opinions !

Thinking about this sofa for my family room and Stickley doesn’t have a visualization tool!

The room has a 9x12 rug and hardwood floors and we like the floral but is there a rule about no florals on sofas now? The first pic is the sofa we like and then the swatches and swatch with our current rug and then the room.. my main question is will it be too busy?
Thank you!!

It’s a lovely print. But I’d be hesitant to do it on the couch. I’d personally use it as an accent. Do pillows in that fabric. Roman shades. Maybe even a chair. I like plain and simple for the couch.

No rule on no florals on sofas. :) Print fabric on sofas fell out of favour but are coming back.

The swatch you love is lovely but how large is the print's scale? (The colours are gorgeous with your rug, btw.) The sofa you love is also gorgeous. I can't see that sofa with a floral print though. Its lines seem to call for something plain but maybe that's me? The print's scale needs to be make sense on the sofa's proportions and that can be difficult to assess with a swatch. You've considered the floral fabric for throw pillows, I imagine?

From the glimpse you've shared, your family room looks absolutely gorgeous.

I know the repeat is 21 inches and yes I can’t really tell what the scale is!? Eesh.. great advice so far! You guys are wonderful.. !

21 inches? That's a large print. Almost two feet. How deep is are the sofa seat cushions? That might help you visualize if the print makes sense for this sofa.

The repeat is 27 in vertical and horizontal.. I misread it .. and the depth of the cushion is 32 inches .. so it will be a large print as opposed to a smaller .. so less busy but the sofa is a more tailored shape which normally you might go toward a more simple pattern or a solid..is that your thinking ?

I'm thinking the large print (the flowers) will end up appearing sporadically on the sofa. You'll have one bloom on each seat cushion. Is that the look you want?

Here's a blog post from decorator Maria Killam on prints on accent chairs. The advice works for sofas as well. It's about seeing the room as a whole, not focusing on one element.

Your question about it looking busy was just a floral print on the sofa or the sofa with the rug?

Here's a sofa with a floral print that reminds me of your swatch. The sofa has curvy lines though, not angular ones like the sofa you're considering. The link in the post didn't work for me. I think the UK company might only have an IG account now. Anyway, do a search for floral prints on sofas to get an idea of the scale of pattern you like and on which sofa style you like them.

I loveflorals but it doesnt feel current to me putting it on a sofa.

    I agree with HU18.

From the swatch on the OP's rug, it looks like a large bloom pattern to me, @RNmomof2 zone 5.

Tartenmeup good points for sure and I so appreciate your comments and everyone’s . The guy I’m working with at the furniture store and he is a designer.. well.. not helpful at all .. maybe because I’m just buying one little sofa though it is not inexpensive.. but perhaps he does whole houses all the time.. not sure.. I am so very appreciative of your advice !!

Have you compared this fabric to the current floral one you have? How large is your current sofa? How long have you had it? (Asking to see if you tire of such prints - that's usually the argument against prints on sofas and for prints on accent pieces.)

So the one we have is used and I like the length of 84 in which is perfect for that room as it sits away but in front of the large windows. That is a floral but is that old 90’s pattern.. a smaller floral for sure and nothing I’m crazy about. I love the Ethan Allen floral they have and I like this one better.. it always appeals to me .. I do think you’re right about this sofa being more tailored as opposed to an English roll arm type .. We live the Stickley for comfort and durability but Lee Industries has something that would fit this fabric better.. If it were just me I would for sure buy this sofa and use a more neutral pattern on it and and then tie in some floral which would soften all the wood in that room and soften the brick fireplace. We live in OR so I want to have something brighter and not cabin like lol! So we are going to test sit the Lee sofas and see how they sit.. they are very good and I think you can get them in different materials ie foam/ down/ etc.. I don’t want a super slouchy look and pillows I have to fluff all the time ..

So this was the selection we went with .. smaller sofa based on our room measurements .. not wanting to “overcouch”. The Lee is a more classic style .. matches the fabric better .. I’ll post pics when it arrives .. in 6 mos 😬🙄😂. Good thing we aren’t in a hurry..

Gorgeous lines on the Lee sofa you chose! Looking forward to seeing the fabric on it and hope you'll share. Six months can go by quickly.

Just started watching a Quintessence YT video on Kate Rheinstein Brodsky's Hamptons home and spotted a gorgeous floral print sofa at the 1:46 mark. Reminded me of your sofa dilemma and thought to share. :)

Thank you!! Lol.. will lol at it! Crossing my fingers the one on order will look great..

So tada.. here it is almost a year later .. delivered 2 weeks ago.. I absolutely love it and tartenup thanks for the support in my floral choice.. don’t really think this is “out” more like very classic. You were spot on in terms of the sofa style and encouragement to go for classes style .. I’m getting drapes next.. something not heavy or two light but a linen color.. I need to shift the sofa over a little too in order to center it. I think with the wood we have this really shifts the mood to more light and we have great sunlight in this room considering it’s Oregon..

@lordry the new sofa is so lovely! I think you made the perfect style selection for the fabric. Classic and just the right size for a print.

Thank you! You’d have thought I was buying a house as I really agonized over it.. I wasn’t able to see the sofa in a pic with that fabric so I hoped for the best :)

If you want floral then get floral. There's no rule against florals. There are fads and trends that are often pushed by designers and the industry, but you can do what you want.

I'm glad to see that you went with what you wanted and IMO it looks great, stylish and classic. I went with a fairly busy floral inspired print on my Stickley settle and I like it a lot, I took no notice of any magazines or current trends and just went with what I liked, just like you did...well done!

@tartanmeup Thanks for that "Hamptons" video. I haven't laughed as much in a long time. When she showed off her "17 feet pink sofa" I lost it.

Jeff that is really beautiful!! I love Stickley and I love that pattern.. really handsome and beautiful!!! Thank you by the way.. yea it’s sort funny how people were saying floral is passe .. well classic is never out of style if you go with the right fabric and sofa style..
