Seedlings Are Starting To Bloom!

It was a good morning in the seedling beds, and a couple of these first-time bloomers mesmerized me. As you can see from the photos, we got a bit of overnight rain.

My favorite was a Dancing Flamingo kid whose father is a UF. The bloom is bigger than 8 inches and is flamingo pink with a coral pink watermark and a green, green throat.



A Dragonfly Dawn kid opened with a lovely trio. This one increases well. I already have four scapes.



Dearest Valentine x Unknown, which I think is Innocent Discovery - This rosy red flower is the third bloom on this one and the first to fully open. It's a 6-inch bloom.



Here's another Dearest Valentine kid that opened yesterday. This one is Carolina Pale Face x Dearest Val. When crossed with pinks, DV produces a high percentage of creams and near whites. The first bloom was 7 inches and very round.



And here are a couple of older seedlings that started blooming today.

    Debra: All very nice but the first seedling is so intriguing with the color. Definitely shows Dancing Flamingo traits. The Dragonfly Dawn kid is quite nice. Is the color a light yellow or cream? The DV cross is perfect in form. Nice opening. Congrats on the "kids".

    I agree with the others about the Dancing Flamingo kid. I bet that one made your heart sing! I hope for good stats as it could be a winner!!

    Kate - The Dancing Flamingo seedling has at least 16 buds, maybe more when they are all showing. My rule of thumb is anything with at least 10 buds when it first blooms goes on to have good bud count in the future. It's an instant selected seedling.


    Julia - The petal color on the Dragonfly Dawn kid is light yellow. It looks cream in the shade and the morning light. The flowers are not as large as Dragonfly Dawn, but the scapes are taller than what I've gotten on DD over the years, as it's always been very short for me. It was crossed with a semi-evergreen and I think this seedling is also semi-evergreen, so maybe a bit hardier than DD.

    i am with everyone else here, the dancing Flamingo seedling made me happy too. It looks like every morning from now through August will be Christmas!

    To me, your seedling all look really nice, but I agree on Flamingo seedling being my favorite. Looks like you have several possible intros!

    Thanks everyone for the comments on the Flamingo seedling! I can't wait to see Dancing Flamingo x Bubblegum Delicious bloom again. It's the one from last year I liked so much, and it multiplied last year from three fans to ten this Spring with nearly every fan double scaping!

    Debra, just please put me on the list for that first seedling because I want that one when you have enough of that one. I just keep thinking about that one., and I know I will want it.

    Kay - You are the second person to say "put me on the list" for that one. It's such a wow color that it grabs you.. It will be awhile before it's available, since it's only one fan now. The other person was Miss Ellie, who used to post on this forum. She and I are Facebook friends.
