Thank you Windymess!

Went to the Heartland Hosta and Shade plant sale and got some wonderful plants (pictures later)

and met Windymess! I went around and asked every woman I saw "Are you Windymess?" I got some STRANGE looks!! But I persevered like a Hosta Maniac on the quest for "that hosta."


Because I WAS! She brought me the MOST BEAUTIFUL noid. HUGE!!!!! In a ten gallon bucket!

I am digging out euonymus that I had left because it was green. But now I see it as using valuable hosta space. I am resting with a cup of tea. And doing some research as what should go there. I think the hosta I picked up at the sale will be perfect. I picked up three mediums, Striptease, She's Got The Moves and Purple Heart.


The list from the sale also included Key West and Victory. The shade plants is another Pulmonaria Pretty in Pink. It did so well in my front courtyard garden that I got another! Heucherella Eye Spy is an impulse buy as well as Geranium Crane Dance. I came home a happy girl!!!


But mainly I want to say Thank you, Windymess! I look forward to future meetings.

    I have picked out the spot for the NoID in the front yard. It is too pretty for neighbors not to see. BUT I have to lift a ton of daffodil bubs to plant there but that is in the garden plan...Then I will have bulbs to plant....Should be pretty next spring....


    I finished digging the euonymus and grass out of the bed I am working on this weekend. Put down rid-a-vole stuff. Watered it in, then mulched with cedar... Stay out of my garden, you varmints.


    May I should get a case of Free State (our local brewery) !!!!

      n2 - you are so welcome! I'm so glad you took those from me... my neighbors and local friends may be done accepting my overflow hostas - they're not quite as hosta-crazy as we are ;) A little provenance on them - the big one was sold to me as Fragrant Queen from Northern Grown Perennials, and I believe they must have mixed it up with something else. The smaller one is one I inherited... and I don't know the name, but I do know it came from Rob Mortko's Made in the Shade - before he went out of business. So they are both from quality vendors and I have every reason to think they are healthy and disease free.

      And I'm glad you had a good time at the sale. The sale was really successful again this year! It was scheduled for 9am - 1pm and people were lining up just after 8am... we opened a bit early, and by 10:30 it was VERY picked-over. We had lunch, cleaned up, and were out of there by 1. At the end there were just a few hostas left and a handful of the companion perennials (out of 800-900 plants). I came home with: Unruly Child, Katie Q, Stag's Leap, and a gift plant from our club president for helping with it all - Praying Hands. I also bought the last remaining Banana Boat carex. So I feel like I got some treasures as well. Of course, I needed another large one (Stag's Leap) like I need another hole in my head, but I'll squeeze it in somewhere.

      It was great to meet you! Yes, we should definitely meet again.... and I hope to find time to divide my hosta June this summer - it's gotten huge and beautiful, but has a Halcyon reversion right in the middle. I may also have a few others by the end of the season.... so if you're still interested in adding to your garden later this summer maybe you'd like to have them. I like your picture above... I definitely feel the pain of all the garden work I've been doing lately too... but a little Free State helps, especially in the heat! LOL!
