Thank you! We have some of the peel and stick decals and she is OBSESSED!!! I got them to put on an old sterilite drawer that I use for her jewelry, dolls, etc. They never end up there, she takes them
off and puts them all over the house 🤣

I once read a study where babies were given beds with mobiles above them, but half the babies got mobiles that automatically turned and flashed lights every 5 minutes, while the other half were put under mobiles with motion detectors that only turned and flashed lights when the babies moved their hands or feet. The babies with the automatic mobiles got bored pretty quickly, and stopped laughing and squealing when the mobiles turned. The ones with motion detectors pretty quickly figured that they were in control of what happened, and they were just delighted for hours every time they made the mobiles spin.

Which is a long way of saying that the more things you can find that your daugther can peel and stick on the wall the longer she will stay interested in it because she’s the one making it happen. I realize she’s not a baby, but most of us like to be the one’s in control of our own space, no matter what age we are.

I am not a fan of hanging things over toddlers’ beds, just for safety reasons. It is remarkable how clever small children can be when no one is looking about climbing up on things, yanking things down, moving around other furniture in an effort to create ladders — not to mention things or parts of things can fall down on their beds because they were cheaply made. I love mobiles and tents, but on the other side of the room until she is a bit older, not right over where she sleeps in the dark.

Nothing more fun than decorating/theming out a child's bedroom. She will LOVE it!! We used the decals when doing Ariel theme back in the day on a nieces room. So much easier than wall paper to change when they grow past it. Good job letting her room reflect HER vs an adult vision of what an entire house has to look like.

Yes, I think one of the problems with hanging things directly above a kid’s bed these days is that a lot of the stuff is made of things you don’t know what it is, and even if the whole thing doesn’t fall down, bits and pieces can. Most of this is such inexpensive stuff and its not put together all that well or inspected before leaving the factory. It’s such a small room that any place you hang something from the ceilings is going to be delightful and seen from the bed.

I love the color, and love those Disney prints you posted. For me, intense color like that needs to be off-set with lots of art work that brings white and bright back to the wall. The Disney prints are a start. Consider adding an art board, whiteboard or chalkboard. Think about table lamps or floor lamps. Look for a good reading chair. Also, 3D decorations, can add depth to a room.

Amreed- i had that concern too. i watched youtube video and a few DIY blogs. i decided to try it because even if it turned out terrible it woudnt be an expensive mistake. Was it perfect and even and exact? No it was not, LOL. But it looked pretty stinking awesome.

ps- I’ve also tried Fathead decals and RoomMates peel and stick wallpaper. Both are thumbs up. They make cute kid themed decals

That is a bright and bold color, which is great! But I think it needs to be offset with some contrast. I'd move the tent thing to a white wall and spread out the pink color. Can you put the bed in the middle of the pink wall and maybe the wood chest next to it? The wood chest would also be a great opportunity to add another color or shade of pink by painting it. Find some cute multi-color bedding, rug, and/or curtains and pull a color a color from that to paint the chest.

Is that bedding I see with some gray pattern on the bed? You could use gray to help ground the room. Maybe as a rug and the chest, and then some gray bins on the white bookcase.

Or if you hang some of those disney prints you posted, they have a lot of yellow/gold in them. I'd maybe choose a yellow that is not quite so bright & bold, but that still blends. I think you need a little something to dull it down. That will keep the bright pink being fun instead of blinding imo. Pull some ideas from the watercolors in those prints. Spread some color around the room!

@poollivingthedreamnow - here are some pics of the room and items I bought so far! I have been thinking about painting the drawer but I haven’t finalized any color yet. I do like the gray bins on the bookcase.

She likes Minnie Mouse now but may not in another few months. I'd paint some white shapes on the pink wall so you have some interest and contrast. Circles are easy to paint yourself. Then you can switch out stickers or posters on the other walls as her interests change without redoing everything. I wouldn't put any dust catchers over the bed.

Is that the bedding you’re using? I think the gray will be a good color to use in baskets or even a rug or curtains.
I think the pink curtain will be too much of the bold color. Maybe a white with pink dots or even black dots. If you removed the closet doors that’s a good place to use some curtains. They can be pulled to side mostly but it’s nice to hide closet stuff sometimes. Then something coordinating over the window, maybe a faux Roman shade or cute cornice. Or an awning. You could add some contrasting Pom Pom trim to the edges. Hold on and I’ll find pics.

One thing I’ve learned here is you need repeat a color three times to tie it in. I love all the colors in the prints you first posted. I’d pick with a blue or green or even yellow and add it in some places. A multi color rug, lamp shade, curtain trim. Something like that. Even a cute pillow. Or paint that little table or get colored chairs. Lots of options!

I agree with Cali about not going overboard on the Minnie mouse. At least make any of those items removal and not costly. decals, framed art, etc can be Minni. But keep the main items like curtains, rugs, etc non-themey.

@poolivingdreamnow - thank you! Those are cute, I will have to look into them. I think my garland would go good with something like that. I also agree about not going overboard on Minnie, everything I have is pretty much removable or interchangeable. I figured the next theme she will be into is unicorns and rainbows, and we can change it up easily!!! I was very cost conscious about the items I bought, and I know that donating them when she outgrows will help another parent out whose kid loves Minnie Mouse!!!

That’s a very bright red-pink….not soothing. I didn’t hang anything with cords or strings within reach of our children’s cribs….safety is primary in a child’s room.
