Boop - welcome back! Your new home is beautiful!! As for the S & L stools, I have set in them and they are fairly comfy and easy to clean. My thing about them is they are in so. many. homes. They seem to be popular on blogs and instagrammer influencers. If it were me, I would want something a bit more unique. I like to be different! The stools shown from Ballards are pretty. Looking forward to seeing more of your new home.

I've had mine since 2012 iirc. I think the reason you see them everywhere is that they *are* comfy, are indestructible (you can hose them down) and, one thing I like, they are not terribly heavy so they are easy to move around, don't mess up your floors, etc.

Congrats on your new home. Someone we have in common mentioned you were moving. We just moved to the Florida Panhandle.

While the S&L barstools might be overused in some areas, I like the look and they will be good with your boys. I don't see them in listings in our area.

I am going to relook at the Serena ones. I love that they can be hosed off :) I just don't love how long it will take to get them there and we will not have a kitchen table or chairs either!

The S&L stools seem to ship later this month. If I really liked them, I wouldn't consider that a long wait. (I waited 3 months earlier this year for mine, although I did have a dining table.) I'd perhaps buy a few inexpensive placeholders that I could donate later, although some might consider that wasteful.

I like the ones Oly suggested for your gorgeous new space. How exciting to be able to start with a clean slate! and for us to watch it all come together!

Love your kitchen! These would look nice. I like the idea of bringing a bit of antique copper into the stool to go with the range hood. Is it antique copper? Looks like it in the photo.

Congrats on your new home. I love your kitchen. I also have the of the S & L chairs thanks to Mtn. It is at my little desk in the kitchen. I love it and it is very comfy. I think the bar stools would look great in your kitchen.

just_terrilynn - I assumed that it was a wood hood. this is another pic. I have to admit - I have never seen the house in person :) we are buying it via a facetime tour and will not see it until we move in. Maybe it is not wood? that is a pretty stool too. and I do like bringing in some of that warmth weather it is wood or copper.

I would go with some stools that are in the same color as the hood. The darker color would provide some contrast and interest and look great with the wood range hood!

It is a beautiful kitchen! I second the suggestion of a darker barstool to match the range hood. Are you buying a new dining table and chairs? Maybe wait till you have those picked out?

I am getting a new dining table. I am thinking of this one. I really want one that is easy to clean. the one I have now the finish is shot on the top it is wood. Granted it was cheap. but I don't want to have to baby a table. I don't have chairs picked out. I am torn on this table as the right size, 80 inches, does have a seam in it. it is from Room and Board. the 72 inch does not have a seam, but I think I want the extra room.

is it too matchy matchy to get the selina chairs for the table and the stools?

How about a glass top that has pull-out expantion sections on each end? Can’t remember where I saw that. You could then team it with a warm color dining chair style .

These are an easy wipe down.

Then, a big warm wood or black lazy susan in the middle of the table.

I think you should look for tables with more contrast to the kitchen cabinets. The more white you put in the room, the objects just get lost.

Are you keeping a lot of your things and going traditional? Or changing it up to more modern? Don't know your budget, but World Market has several wood dining tables that would work.

ETA: Just read you don't want wood tabletop. I wouldn't do glass since it's harder to keep clean looking (with our without children). How about marble or granite? Metal, like steel or copper? Either with a wood base that goes with the hood.

Most of the clients at the furniture company where I worked wanted bar stools with swivel, but none of the bar stools that I designed are still available, as the company closed shortly after I retired.

The bar stools that I own all have swivels, and I think that this is important partly because it is very difficult to move most bar stools once you are sitting in them, unlike chairs. You cannot scoot a bar stool while sitting in it, from my experience, at least not by yourself.

Allison, Windex lol! Really though, I liked and still do like glass tops. I liked them when my boys were kids and still prefer for my big distructive kid husband.

I just went to the Serena and Lily showroom this weekend to tryout he counterstools for comfort. IMO the NON swivel Riveria counterstool was very comfortable but the swivel version uncomfortable for both me and my husband (5'5" and 5'10"). The swivel version has the foot rest in a different place and seat kind of slopes downward. I think you have to try them first for comfort.

Boop, do you have any saved photos of the look you are going for? For some of us who have known you for a long time and in 4 (I think) different houses, we have a rough idea of what the old Boop would choose, but it sounds like you want a bit of a change.

Old Boop was traditional leaning, bohemiam, quirky, colorful :-)

If you decide upon bar stools, be aware that people, whether adults or children, tend to swing their feet and will leave scuffs on the wall surface below. Some years ago I also moved into a new house with the open concept. We had a breakfast bar similar to yours and added swivel stools below.

I began to notice shoe scuffs below the bar. Got out the touchup paint to make it all look new again. Several guests later (adults), I noticed scuffs again. The cycle repeated. The problem was solved when we donated the stools and chose to eat in other areas.

I am fearful of swivel stools for fear of them banging into counters. However, I guess this is okay as long as something soft bangs it.

Sadly Michele said the Serena and Lily swivel stools are not comfortable :( I do think it will be easier for kids to use if there is a swivel as Lars pointed out. adults too! :) My youngest is in 4th grade.

Juneroses - it is interesting you point that out. I am on the facebook group for my new development and i saw a few posts with people putting decorative wood along the back of the island so they didnt have to deal with the scuffs anymore. some were just painting it a darker color too. :)
