What's going on here

Hi everyone, I have been 'lurking' and enjoying all your beautiful photos and quite honestly, missing you all. As I messaged some of you, my family hit a rough patch the past few months and I haven't had the time to comment or post. It started in December when my family got ill with Covid and it lasted a few rough weeks, then in mid-January my father in law had a stroke, went into the hospital and contracted Covid there, passed away in February. In March my husband took the motorcycle out for the first time this year (the first warmish day here in New Hampshire) with our grandson as passenger.....it was hubby's birthday so they were coming back after a short ride to celebrate. They only went 2 miles down the road and were hit by a distracted driver in a pickup truck. Our grandson was thrown from the bike into the highway but thankfully had minor injuries. Hubby got the worst of it with the truck hitting full force (side impact) and crushing his left leg between the bike and the truck. His knee was broken at the tibia (tibial plateau fracture). They both were transported by separate ambulances to the hospital. I could not go in with either on account of Covid regulations. No one would give me information about their conditions so I sat in my car in the parking lot and cried. Anyhow, it has been 12 weeks since and hubby is still unable to work but cannot get unemployment compensation because he owns his own business, which is now struggling to stay afloat. He has been going to physical therapy and will have to continue for some time. The prognosis for his full recovery is guarded since he already had arthritis in that knee and his job is repairing equipment. I have had to undertake all the chores hubby took care of in addition to watching grandchildren and tending all the gardens, planting out hundreds of seedlings, etc. I barely have time to sleep let alone post! To top off a bad spring, we lost our beloved kitty Kiko to kidney cancer in April. New Hampshire had a severe drought last year and it continues on this year with very little rainfall. Some parts of the state

have gotten more than us and it's upsetting to see on radar that we are once again missing out! We are on a private well so watering is limited to the seedling beds. Everything else it's survival of the fittest. Those of you with too much rainfall please fill up some barrels and ship them here!

Anyway, I did manage to take some photos of what's going on around here and thought I would try to get back onto the forum from time to time. On a positive note I am seeing SCAPES starting!! And I will have hundreds of new seedlings blooming next month!

Ouch, that looks horrifically painful. I sure hope he recovers full mobility. Seems like a nasty injury. Thankful at least that your grandson was not hurt worse. Things have just piled up on you, it never rains but it pours, unfortunately. No comfort there, sorry. Wish I lived closer to help out. Better days are surely ahead, I will be thinking of you.

And this was hubby's leg the week after the accident.....note the severe swelling and tissue damage, when compared to his right leg

lots of tissue damage to his ankle too, which still hasn't resolved

Oh, Celeste! What a truly horrible time you have had. And your poor DH! I'm just relieved that your grandson wasn't hurt badly (or worse, which was what jumped to my mind as I read the beginning of the accident episode). All hopes sent for good recovery and peaceful times ahead.

Your photos are all so beautiful! I shall do my little rain dance for you to get some good, steady, gentle rain.

Celeste - My heart goes out to you and your family in the face of all this adversity. You are having such a difficult year! Prayers for a good recovery for your husband and for more rain this year. Your glorious irises and roses have got to be lifting your spirits during this hard time.

As we discussed earlier, I am sending lots of prayers your way. The leg injury does look incredibly painful and he is probably fortunate to still have it after being pinned that way. Thankful your grandson was not badly injured. I don’t know when you sleep with all that you have on your plate now.

Your seedlings look great and look forward to seeing blooms! Roses and iris are gorgeous.

After getting 25 inches of rain in two weeks I would live to send those barrels to you and you could return them full of your ”purple” soil!! :)

I am so very sorry, Celeste. It sounds as if you have to feel as if you have been under a dark cloud. I'm sure not having rain doesn't help anything. You might try arnica salve on his ankle it is surprisingly helpful in healing tissues (providing there are no liver issues since it would ten be hard on the liver) Oh Celeste, I am so sorry about Kiki. It is heartbreaking to lose one you have loved for years. I would like to have sent you some of our rain although Kate was blessed more than we were. I sincerely hope and will pray things become much brighter for you and your family.

Talk about a story out of Job in the Bible. You poor thing. Life has sure given you a lot to deal with lately. .............Your garden in the meantime must give you some solace. It is gorgeous. Your plants seem to thrive in your climate and look to be in tip top shape regardless of the drought. What excitement to come when all those seedlings begin to bloom for you...........My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, especially for a full recovery for you DH. Goodness you've had a tough year already. Wasn't it last year you fell and had your own injuries to recover from? . Hoping your DH recovery will be swift. Sounds like your Grandson is doing okay now. My sympathies on the passing of your father-in-law. A lot to deal with. Many of us in this forum have had family health issues to deal with so we know how difficult this time is for you. On the rain, it will come. Sometimes it seems like it will never come. Then it comes and seems to never stop. Enjoy your garden. I'm sure it will be fantastic this year.

Thank you for all the positive energy and best wishes! I am getting excited about my upcoming daylily season and that always gives me joy.

Mantis, perhaps the spelling was off......It is Loving SON, not Sun. It's a tender rose, probably not suited for my zone but I got it to honor my son & our close bond. It always gets cut back to the ground each spring even though it's placed right next to the house in a protected spot. I got rid of all my other tender roses over the years but this one has stayed because of the name.

Celeste , not sure what to say that hasn't already been said. Please know that my sentiments are the same as the others.

They say God only gives what we can handle , but I am sure you have had moments of wondering what the heck he is thinking . I know I would be wondering if I were in the same situation .

Your family is lucky that you are so strong with all your loved ones depending on you. They are fortunate to have you there to lean on and hold things together . I am wishing for you only good things to happen from here forward. If good thoughts direct the movements of the universe then with all these people wishing only the best for you, it has to happen. Stay strong and allow your glorious gardens to replenish your spirit when things get tough.

I am so sorry you have had such misfortune. Prayers for your husband's complete recovery and for you as you wrestle with so much.

On a positive note, your flower photos are lovely. I love the roses and the iris. Hopefully your drought will break soon.
