Jeri or anyone who grows this or other golden roses: Is the coloration similar to Crown Princess Margareta, Golden Celebration, or Golden Zest?

Wholly different.. It's a Hybrid Musk and very much in that style. Arching and mounding, with small (1.5- 2-ins.) blooms held in sprays. The color changes as the spray matures, so that at any given time, you may have multiple shades of yellow in the same cluster.

The opening color is far darker for me, near the coast than it is for my friend Christine, who grows it in northern Nevada.

The Fragrance is remarkably strong (and there are many, many roses I can't smell). Rich, fruity and spicy.

Is this another 1 that requires a warm zone? Anyone know?

Since they are both hybrid musk roses, I suppose they have similar growth habits? But undoubtedly based on a description of BB, the fragrance of JJ must be more evocative?

Jeri - how large is your entire plant? I have one JJ, but it is growing in partial shade, under 2 other roses. Anyway, it is a small plant, only about 2 ft high. As you say, the blooms are small also - I love them.

I ask because of jjkOC's question re Buff Beauty - in my garden BB got very large - maybe 8 ft tall by 10 ft wide, and of course has very large very double blooms. Could hardly be more different from JJ. However, I thought mine might just be small because of where it is growing, and perhaps yours is much larger?

Jackie, I think it can be bigger. Check the photos on HMF. But my two are not only in shade, they have the handicap of growing in pots in the ground, for gopher protction. So they are about 2.5-ft. tall and 3.5-ft. wide. But just this year, they have put on some size, so I suspect in another year they will be larger.

Thanks, Jeri. I find it so funny that both you and I have JJ in shady and less than ideal conditions, although yours are definitely larger than mine. That's because my garden is so short of sunny places that they are all packed with roses! So glad there were at least some full bush pictures on HMF - sometimes there are not.

Theoretically, I will be getting a 500 sq ft part of my garden cleared (from ivy & ancient HUGE perennial bushes which I either don't love, or hate (barberry monster), and my DH is going to completely fence it in with a deer fence with gates & everything. It is flat, and has good soil, so I am hoping it will now have enough sun to move some of the roses currently touching our house (not the gigantic ones, but some of the medium ones) over there. I will consider moving JJ, now that I see what it can do!

OK - thanks for the tip. Shade is something I ALWAYS have available! My plan is to wait and see what the sun/shade patterns are in the new part of the garden before I plant anything.

A beautiful golden Hybrid Musk! And Hybrid Musks tend to thrive here. If I had another inch of space, I’d surely grow it. I only have 3 roses in golden shades: Yellow Banks, Buff Beauty and Marianne.

Is anyone else on the forum less than pleased that we can no longer ”like” original posts/photos? Jeri, the first batch of photos is breathtaking!
