I'll be interested in responses as well. This is one of quite a few of the ARE bred Texas roses that are supposed to be hardy in my zone but turn out to be pretty tender in my winters. Rockwall Sesquicentennial is reliably hardy and a good bloomer all year, but many of the other Shoup bred roses are at best hit or miss. My Brazos Belle didn't survive a winter that should have been relatively easy to survive.

Oh the bloom is so pretty. Is it fragrant? Does it handle the heat well? Comparing to Bliss and Abraham Darby? (So far, these two are winners in my yard). Rain is a rare thing in my area.

Yes, it has a warm fruity fragrance that's quite pleasant and suits the flower. It is getting ready with some more buds so I will report back with Anything further. I would say it probably does very well in the heat. Bliss is New this year so I cannot comment and Abe Dare has not yet bloomed.

Vapor, what a shame you've had so many problems with this beauty. I love the frills and waves of the petals and the lovely color blend of the blooms. Should I say it reminds me of Augusta Luise? Because it does in its own way. I'd love to grow this one. I hope BB starts prospering for you, and you are able to post more lovely photos. Diane

I think ARE has some really nice roses . I love my sweet frances very much.

Can you tell me how you handled your midge ? I think my one rose arbor has it . You pointed out the possibility. I did a systemic treatment but wonder what else I should do. It’s so frustrating. I’ve never had it before and I’m pretty annoyed since I’ve not seen hardly any blooms on this .

It should have been in full glory this spring having reached the top of the arbor . But nothing but Burnt tips .

Should I just remove the rose and plant honeysuckles ?

I'll PM you guys. Any chance you could Temporarily put landscape fabric under It, lily finch?. At least that will stop the next Generation from emerging. Even if you cut off the tips when they are burnt, they have already fallen by that point. They are now in the soil surrounding the plant.

Regarding the shape of this rose, it is too soon to tell. Since it didn't grow 1 whit last year due to the midge I feel like this is really its 1st year. It's putting out longest canes . I just don't know. I wish someone else grew this rose here. I know some people ordered it when I did And even sooner but I've never seen any pictures.

Any news on Brazos Belle ?
