gaps at eaves after replacing a tile roof with shingle

We had a tile roof replaced with asphalt shingle. At the corners of the eaves are large gaps, due to the difference in the size of shingle to tile.

The house has been vacant for over 4 years and we haven't moved in yet. We recently got our remodel underway and found that it actually hasn't been totally vacant, but a home for rats up in the attic. Rats! In FL, where rats go, snakes follow and we are surrounded on two sides by a preserve with a creek, aka snake city.

What would be the best way to seal those holes? I was thinking that spray foam stuff?

We still haven't painted the ugly metal flashing, but after the holes are sealed properly, we can paint.

You can't see the gaps in the photo, but they're in the corners of the triangle.

Hardware cloth is the "go to" method for pest controllers here.

And don't forget vent covers.

I am wondering why you replaced the roofing . As for sealing up the gaps you will need to show us where they are .

Fascia and or rake boards are yet to be installed. Perhaps a close up of the exact area you are speaking of may help us help you.

Can't provide advice if we can't see the problem. I will say that spray foam WILL NOT stop rats. We had roof rats (in attic actually...) in a previous house but we had lots of access points. We restored the exterior patching everything with new wood. They simply chewed a new access hole in brand new wood. You need to call in professionals to kill the colony because they think that is their home- the big box store homeowner baits will not suffice

Thank you all for your replies. We replaced the roof because it was a 26 year old tile roof in very bad condition. The house has never been owner occupied, strictly a rental. There was a lot of caulk slapped on top of cracked tiles, signs of previous leaks, and 3 active leaks at the time of purchase.

The fascia has been replaced & capped (with all new gutters and soffits).

I will try for a better photo the next time I'm down there.

I am definitely getting a pest control company down there!!!! Wouldn't even try to diy that lol

Thank you! I need to walk the property with a pest control company & get every gap taken care of. I'm planning on using 1/4 inch hardware cloth, we have a lot of venomous snakes here.
