Purple Iris

I don't know anything about irises, but I am looking for some. I love tall purple ones and there are some really great ones in my neighborhood that are deep, vivid purple. Pretty sure they are bearded Irises. What variety are these most likely to be? This is not too, helpful, sorry. I'll try to get a picture and post it here.

They're ALL GOOD ones! ♥ I personally can't get the NEW hybridized ones to come back after the 1st year. The OLD varities that are not so ruffled....they're hardy!

My suggestion would be to look at some of the many on-line iris farms and try to find the ones you like. Several, like Schreiner's and Iriswarehouse, allow to shop by color. WARNING: Iris can become addictive!

I bought a purple iris from Walmart years ago, it was called 'Blueberry'; it is positively enormous. Still going strong after 5 years...

I ended up getting three Dusky Challengers from Schreiner's. Two are in ground and one is in a pot in my unheated greenhouse. The potted one is beginning to wake up. I'll put it in a permanent spot when it warms up. Can't wait to see them bloom!

I should have said....I get my iris FREE off Craigslist. The Nextdoor app, is also good. People who divide iris, healthy and multiplying....those are the ones to grow in zone 4. :0)
