Daybed frame for an adjustable bed

Hello, my elderly mother is going to live with me for six months of the year. She is tiny, only 100 lbs. We are going to convert the den/office into a bedroom for her. I've been trying to find an adjustable bed (she needs her feet and/or head raised at times) that can have a frame similar to a daybed. Alternately a low profile matching headboard and footboard that could work with an adjustable bed. Just looking for ideas for the bed where I can convert the room back into a living space for the six months she's not with me.

you can tuck most kinds of adjustable bases into regular bed frames. then all you need to do is purchase a daybed frame that's big enough on the inside to accommodate the insert, and remove the mattress slats.

one thing I think may be an issue is if the daybed frame is big enough on the inside so that the side of the mattress doesn't get stuck when raising and lowering. so before ordering the adjustable base, call and ask if it would work in a daybed -- they might require a certain amount of clearance. they might even have brands of daybeds to recommend.

many adjustable bases have legs, which you can see under the bed. but I found this one that doesn't. more expensive but would look better.

Just a guess, but the open design on this daybed one might work a little better, since it has a header but no footer. Landis twin daybed from wayfair:

as you can see, it's designed so the mattress sits lower than the padded frame, so it should conceal the edges of the adjustable base. you would want to make sure the base doesn't fit too tight inside a frame like this. (you might need to contact them and get inside measurements.)

A single adjustable bed and then push it against the wall and add pillows when she is not there

This is the wall space the bed will now be in so the bed really needs a headboard to hold the pillows.

You could get the regular twin frame and do like Patricia said and push it against the wall and BUILD a headboard to fit. Or make one from an old mantel or iron gate or windows. Or maybe a queen size or king size headboard will fit. You would just need to attach it to the frame, but make sure the mechanism can still function. You could always attach it the the wall.

OP can you clarify- by "headboard", do you mean something that runs between the bed and the wall? Or more like an armrest that doubles as a headboard when somebody is laying down?

Thank you. Ilovemod, I guess I'm using the wrong terminology. An armrest that doubles as a headboard when someone is laying down is what I was envisioning. I was envisioning a low profile with matching at the foot of the bed so when not using as a bed it could look like a couch.

That daybed I posted above is like a fainting couch. But a regular couch shape with two arms should work too. As long as the inside measurements are roomy enough to accommodate the adjustable bed insert.

The combo might be pretty expensive for a twin size bed!

I'm having a hard time finding a day bed that will fit the adjustable. One furniture store recommended getting frame rails for a queen bed and then two footboards or two low profile headboards for the frame. That said, I'm finding headboards too tall or foot boards too low to hold in the pillows. Again, the lond side of the mattress will be on the wall and the head and foot free.

Any other outside of the box ideas?

putting a headboard and footboard might work out ok, or it might feel really flimsy. however, I think that's not going to look like a daybed. the utilitarian style legs will not look good so you'll need to do some kind of skirt. I think it will wind up looking like a twin bed that you pushed sideways against the wall.

you might be better off having something custom built. or just getting a normal adjustable bed and maybe one day considering the idea of replacing it with a daybed when it's no longer needed.

I know, I appreciate your help @User The bed was delivered yesterday and I just can't imagine how it's not going to look like a bed no matter what I do.

Many of my senior friends actually sleep in recliners because they are so perfect. They even have ones in medical supply places that go all the way done like a flat bed as well as having the standard positions.

I am having surgery and am thinking of renting one to sleep in even though i have an adjustable bed because getting in and out would be easier than from my bed which is high and then I have to slide around to get into the right spot. 🤷‍♀️
