The first flower that would be, in this case H. clausa var. normalis.

There are plenty of others in bud but being the early bird to break ground means you're front runner for first bloom...

Nice! I've been remiss in taking flower photos, so I'm trying to remedy that this year. I've taken over two dozen shots of Navajo this month but I just don't seem to capture it. I think I need a better background.

Ok, Pieter….. I have many blooms coming but some flowers. But I can’t always get to the ground to get great photos like yours. But here’s a few. I love taking pics of flowers.

Laurie, mine's in a pot, in a raised planter tucked in front of a sizeable 'Revolution' and 'Albo Picta', you can just barely see the scape peeking out on the left

On top of that, while I won't hesitate to use my phone for pictures, most of my posted pictures are taken on a Lumix G6, which has an articulating viewfinder that allows me to hold the camera very low and then angle the viewfinder so I can see what I'm shooting from 2-3 ft away.

Yes Pieter mine will stay in a pot too. I have a huge swath of clausa var. clausa and cannot devote space to another ground cover Hosta. I will up the size of the pot this year.

Thanks for that camera recommendation! Is it a heavy one? I am just using my phone for pics and then tranfer them to my Ipad.

No wonder you get such great photos! I use an old point and shoot camera, which is about all that I can handle. The Lumix is a great camera but it would be wasted on me since I am a total klutz with cameras!

This will be OT but there seems to be some interest. The camera you use is naught but a tool, it's what you do with it that goes a long ways to influence the end result. I have enjoyed taking pictures for well over 60 years but never professionally. I've been using a Lumix G series camera ever since they first came onto the market over 10 years ago. They are compact and quite lightweight. I won't hesitate to use my phone's camera but will always reach for my Lumix when I want to be more creative.
