Late June Seedlings

The seedlings keep coming. I'll begin with the first-time bloomers.

The cross of (Natalie Antoinette X Symphony of Praise) x Secret Contentment only yielded two seeds. The siblings both bloomed on Monday and had very different looks. They are two-year-olds.

This is supposed to be Cowgirl Spurs X Stinger. I wasn't expecting an applique in the toothy crosses. It's a one-year-old.

This is (Redefined Design X Blue Eyed Bandit) x (Palace Garden Beauty x Karelia). It has extremely clean lavender petal color, and I like the double edge.

Scarlet Angel x Barbara Mandrell is a three-year-old with good branching and bud count. But the first few blooms are always horribly splotchy.

This three-year-old Sweet Prairie Wind seedling is back to looking like a bitone. When it first opened this year, it was much deeper in color and the sepal color matched the petals.

I had seven seedlings from the cross of Cowgirl Spurs x Skater. This is the only one that has teeth all the way around the petals. Hoosier Nan, I envy you with all your toothy seedlings. It's a two-year-old.

This four-year-old out of Blazing Saddles has multiplied well, It has fewer buds than last year, probably because plants in front of it got so tall.

This is my favorite of the Aztec Headdress x Banded Broadbill cross. Its bloom is just under 7 inches, and it has 30 inch scapes with bud counts in the mid teens.

I posted this three-year-old the other day, but I just had to show the full clump (Destined to See X Back Scratcher seedling). The bud count is only 10-11. I'm lining some of it out elsewhere to see if it can improve the bud counts.

More lovelies, such nice results. At the top of the list for me is the Destined to See X. i love the color on #1 Natalie X. Your Aztec Headress X has a really attractive pattern.

Sherry - I really appreciate your feedback on the seedlings. I think all the brand new ones have bloomed now.

I seem to prefer more colorful ones these days, purples and bright pinks especially catch my eye. #1 really grabbed my attention, also the Redefined Design seedling, Blazing Saddles and Cowgirl Spurs, in that order. Really nice seedlings, Debra!

The first Natalie Antoinette seedling has a rich color. I like the Sweet Prairie Wind seedling as a bitone-a different look. The Destined to See seedling is a wonderful clump.

Another set of beauties. The last pic of the Destined to See X Back Scratcher so pretty in a clump. Hopefully it does better on bud count but either way, I still think it is a winner to this novice. .Sweet Prairie Wind seedling is the other one I like either as a bitone or self.

Your first image of (Natalie Antoinette X Symphony of Praise) x Secret Contentment and Scarlet Angel x Barbara Mandrell run neck and neck as my first choice . (Destined to See X Back Scratcher seedling) is a close runner up . Sometimes it doesn't matter how many buds a plant has if it is gorgeous . Of course lots of blooms are nice but this one would not be refused a spot in my garden due to a lower than 20 bud count . I think sometimes the lower bud count comes when the bloom is spectacular .The plant only has so much energy and if most of that energy is going into color, shape , teeth etc. there is only so much left over for bud count .

Heather - Thanks for your comments about the Destined to See x Back Scratcher seedling. It's one I'll always grow because I like it so much.

Wow! I love the first one (I love the pink ones especially with a watermark. I love the Scarlet Angel seedling and the Sweet Prairie Wind seedling. I hope the bud count improves on the last one. It's really pretty,

Thanks Hoosier Nan! The first one has 11 buds this first bloom season, and it's planted in a really bad place. I need to get it away from the seedlings with really tall foliage. It's a large bloom and very unique lavender rose color.

I really like seedling number 1 of the Natalie Antoinette X Symphony of Praise) x Secret Contentment cross. Scarlet Angel x Barbara Mandrell is beautiful. I suppose the splotchiness comes from Barbara. The Blazing Saddles seedling is beautiful and the Destined to See X Back Scratcher clump is stunning.

Thanks so much for your feedback, kay! Both Scarlet Angel and Barbara Mandrell can be splotchy. I was hoping crossing them together would cancel out the splotchiness. LOL
