Rose ID: Gallica?

Hi,

I found a rose growing in a large suckering patch next to an abandoned house foundation in zone 4 VT. I think it might be gallica empress josephine.

Each branch is no more than 3 feet tall. the stems are thin, sprawling and lax. very few small thorns. flowers are about three inches across, pinkish lavender with an almost watercolor two tone effect.

it is once blooming. i am hoping someone here has an idea of what this might be!

Here’s an up close picture that shows the thorns a little better. Does anyone agree that

it might be a gallica?

@A B It is most definitely a Gallica. Does it have a fragrance, and of so, how intense and how would you describe its qualities?

Thank you so much for your response, @User! The scent is very light, but I have only my albas to compare it to right now. I would call it lightly sweet and floral. My kids say it smells like lollipops.

Looks gallica to me. Besides that and yes. I love it. Not any more info I can give, besides that I would love a peice of it of course! It looks different than any I have. I don't have Empress Josephine yet, to compare.

I've had 'Empress Josephine' but I can't recall exactly how it looked. I remember it had very little fragrance though. I'll see if I can find photos.

This rose definitely doesn’t have a lot of fragrance, but it does have some. The most striking thing about it is the lavender veining through the pink petals. That is what led me to Empress Josephine based on the description in Peter Beales’ ”Classic Roses”.

Unfortunately my pictures don't capture it well.
