Do you need more furniture functionally? Or are you trying to "hide" the vent? If not, I'd just go with some art.

If it were my space, I would take away the console table and ottomans behind the sofa and replace them with a shelf unit of cubbies so the kids can stash their toys there. I would put a kids’ rug on the floor, put a table big enough for board games + chairs, and I would use the wall as a place to hang the kids’ art. I might even use chalkboard paint to paint some some squares and circles on the wall, and put in a narrow floating ledge for chalk and erasers.

Do you like the way the rest of the room is arranged? Looks like the tv wall is your focus, which I totally get. fireplace is ignored though, which is a shame.

Cubby14, agree the fireplace is ignored, but we couldn’t hang the tv there. I’ve always felt that way. We could try rotating the couch but then you walk into the back of the couch when you come from the kitchen.

I definitely don’t need it to be more kid space. We have a finished basement for their stuff and artwork and I’m not looking to add more clutter.

I would hang a graphic quilt there. Something colorful but soft. That way your kids won’t hurt themselves on any corners when they go through there.

You can find American made quilts on eBay or etsy.

What you’ve got there now is clutter.

How about a sleek desk? Of course you don't want cover up the vent with furniture.

I vote art -- one large or two smaller pieces. A console table would work, but not needed, and it's so nice to have clear walkways!

You cannot block the vent but If you're wanting to hide the vent, you might consider open shelving with an opening in the back around the vent and a lattice style door in front to hide the vent but permit air flow and don't block the sides.

Art, about the same size as the TV screen across the room. Hang it centered 5' above the floor. I think your sofa table is too long for that space and the stools would just be a tripping hazard when coming through the French doors. Consider pulling your rug so the edge near the wall in question is aligned with the end of the fireplace brick by the doors. Turn the sectional 90 degrees, then place a family game table behind the sofa instead of the sofa table and ottomans.

I agree tv above fireplace is not a good thing. I’d try rotating the sectional and see how it feels that way. Leave it for a few days, since new things sometimes take getting used to.

Awkward - it doesn't strike some of us as a problem - there's good all around with feature fp, and tv wall, kitchen, and another room. In other words, your home doesn't appear under-done... Art without glass, canvas or fabric?

You only need artwork or some photos on the wall. You don't need any more furniture in this room. And you don't need to necessarily look at a fireplace for it to bring warmth to a room;-)

I agree with the others who say you just need some art there. It’s a nice visual line from the French door into the kitchen that should be maintained. Furniture or anything sticking out would disrupt the visual flow there.

With all of those step downs in that space, trying that current sofa table on that wall should not be a big deal. If you feel it's too much - then move it. If you like it, then consider purchasing a smaller table for that wall.

I suggest a few nice pieces of art... no furniture there unless you'd really use the furniture.

Even if you take the simple route of hanging one big piece of art or a quilt, I doubt it will change that the real issue is that the family traffic through the room is all about using it for activities beyond watching TV, and a lot of stuff is therefore going to migrate into that room and pile up on every surface and create tripping hazards in the walkway. (Why is that screen plugged into the wall there?) People want to be where the action is, not banished to the basement. Organize the room for what it is going to be used for and it will look nicer than an item of wall decor bought because it’s a certain size.

you said you want to avoid toy clutter. the key to clutter control is making it easy for people to access it where they want it (or else they will be bad at putting things away). it seems really clear that somebody wants to play behind that couch and not the basement. if you replace the open table behind the couch with a low cabinet, you could get those game boxes out of site.

Honestly, the rest of the room looks ok to me, including the TV placement. if you really wanted to re-arrange the room so the TV is above the fireplace, that could be done if you took the mantle down. but even though it might solve some layout problems, I think the TV would look kind of weird there, and not worth it.
