Enlarge the photo, ken. The variegation/marbling that make Tie Dye "dyed" is readily apparent.

That's beautiful and I'm very very jealous. My tie dye has been in the ground since July 2019 and is half the size than when I bought it. I think the rabbits have been pruning it but I think it may have wilt.

Anyway it is a pitiful 6 inches tall, awful leaves and nary a flower in sight.

Should I look at the roots or would that just be insulting it further?

Tie Dye is a summer blooming (type 3) clematis which typically aren’t susceptible to clematis wilt, so it is likely the rabbits doing stem damage. if it is browning out, cut back after bloom, and if your season is long enough it may rebloom. I know someone who does this with her summer blooming clematis in central Ohio, and they regularly rebloom for her. IME this far north my season is too short for rebloom on most varieties.

Maybe. But I am pretty good about looking at those 'affected' stems to see if they are cut.

Nope. Not in my locale.

It could also be wind or snails or some other source of mechanical damage that does not totally cut the stem. Or sometimes water can be an issue. I sometimes have stems that brown out, but I have just removed them where possible or ignored them. My garden is far from pristine.

Well, there will be no "after bloom" treatment for this sad specimen.

If it blooms this year I'll be mighty surprised.
