I love glass cabinets to show off your decorative possessions. But that’s all they should do in my opinion. If you need the storage space for your kitchen items, don’t get them.

I would not do uppers on that wall but add a couple of interesting pieces of art since it is the wall you see when you enter it will be less kitchen like

I agree with @bwlng166. Personally I do not like glass because I don't have "show off" pieces and my cabinets are generally used to store things I DON'T want out. But if you have those sorts of items that you want displayed, then get glass.

But agree, it must be properly staged.

Saw a trick where in place of the glass cabinet people either use opaque glass or a metal mesh. That way you get the look of a different cabinet without being able to clearly see the mess inside.

Hopefully when someone comes in your entry they are more interested in seeing YOU, not your kitchen cabinet doors. If you want some glass doors, I think they look best where YOU will see them (in your kitchen layout, on the upper cabinets immediately to the right and left of the window. Watered/reeded or other textured glass shows less fingerprints and lets color shine through.

Glass cabinet fronts with with your windows on either side will give an airer look as you enter. Coming into a house where you see the kitchen is usually welcoming for your guests. They can feel at home, but you need to keep the clutter picked up so you feel comfortable too.

We did stainless steel door frames with back painted glass insert which hides what's inside and adds a little variety in our kitchen. Similar to below but glass painted white on the inside.

Love the glass option.

Definitely a yes to the glass door cabinets. My kitchen has 4 of them. You coukd do 4 too. I vehemently disagree with the earlier comment that they are ”to show off your decorative possessions”. I have my day-to-day china and my glassware in mine. Not only do the glass fronts look lighter and reflect more light from my nearby kitchen window, they also allow my friends/guests who come over to help themselves. No more conversations like ”Where are your glasses?” ”They’re 2 cabinets over.” ”You mean to the right or the left?” ”No, not that one, they’re in the other one.” etc.

I do not like interior cabinet lighting. I had that two kitchens ago. It was expensive. After using it a couple times, I almost never turned those lights on, so for me, I thought it was a waste of money.

FWIW, our simple to use, energy-efficient, in cabinet Ikea lights were incorporated with the design, we simply say "Alexa, turn on the kitchen lights" or "Alexa, turn on all the lights" for full house and it's joyous.

So much so that our drawers light up too!

All the lights can be dimmed manually or voice-activated in seconds for a pleasing late-night glow as well.

It looks like you have enough storage for dishes, etc so I second Patricia Colwell and feel like a nice piece of art would be great there.

I would absolutely do glass. My glass cabinet is filled with stemware, glass bowls and matching colored cups. Pretty much everyone comments on that cabinet, especially when the LED lights are on.

The most common choice, and the most practical, is a glass cabinet. If you choose this option, you can always see what's inside, but if you want to store items you want private, there are options for that as well.

I would just do open shelving instead of cabinets there.

Hi Jenn. - I’ve always liked glass door cabinets. At first I was worried about showing my everyday stuff in my present home, but I’m short on cabinets, so I need to use them. I keep them reasonably neat but don’t go crazy - and they look great. Like Shannon says, they’re easy to locate stuff and they lighten up the kitchen.

I do not care for glass cabinets; I think they disrupt the look of the kitchen. Kitchens have enough items in them “as is”: fridge, dishwasher, microwave, items on your counters, etc.

I would put a door , so that one can not look into the kitchen , an open concept is one thing , but in your space it doesn’t really help looking into the kitchen . And just put wood cabinets , d
In my opinion , don’t make it more confusing . There is a lot going on when you walk in to the house .

I have glass cabinets on the back wall of my kitchen. Those are the ones people see when they’re in the great room. I am not neurotic about making them “showy” but I do keep my prettier serving bowls and plates in there. It’s easier for ME to find what I need. I think glass doors add both change and a lighter look to any kitchen. Open shelving, to me, is just a cleaning headache.

I have 2 glass doors and I do use them for displaying some pretties on the 2 upper shelves, while on the bottom shelf I have my mismatched but colofrul coffee mugs. I love it. The cabinets are not lighted (they are white backed and white shelves) and I am enjoying them greatly. I used seeded glass so it's pretty clear, but not 100%.

Glass cabinets, for sure. If you are concerned about staging or keeping things neat, opt for textured glass which provides the same “airiness” of glass without the transparency. Enjoy your new kitchen!
