Orange Electric --hotter colors have been vivid this year

I was just checking out Gimmee Gimmee Gimmie on one of my favorite on line sellers. How has it performed for you? it is a beauty. 29 Flags Over Conroy caught my eye today, don’t remember seeing it before, could be this old brain, another beauty.

Gimmee is an older Davisson. It blooms reliably and increases well. Not as tall as some of Judy's later intros, but flowers held well above scapes.

I like dark bold oranges and Mardi Gras Indian sure draws my attention. Unfortunately, many of the Selmans are not colorfast, so I have to take every wow introduction from him with a grain of salt. If he wasn't so expensive (even on older ones), it might be worth a try......I tried Natalie Antoinette years ago due to an enabler who shan't be named. It didn't make it over winter. Maybe my pot culture?? Looks pretty for you in ground........Flight of Orchids, Jackie Canner and Jubilee Ball are also very nice ones.........I was just wondering, do you still maintain the hospital beds?..........Maryl

Maryl, yes I maintain the urgent care beds, despite harassment from deer, ground hogs, and management. Last December, the administration decided to dig up one of the peony beds. They decided to plant a tree, and the workers thought it would be easier to dig into a cultivated bed. The battle against deer there is daily. I use repellent and cayenne sauce every night. It used to be the case that I could grow daylilies there with only occasional spraying of repellent. No longer! As a result, I grow only older cultivars there. It is a shame, because daylilies can look very good in a mixed perennial bed.

Construction crews rode over beds, but fortunately, happy rudbeckia sprung up (with some transplanting help).

The clumps of Flight of Orchids and Isabelle Rose are impressive. The hot oranges look very bright. Like Maryl, I remember past photos of the hospital beds-very impressive with a variety of blooms. Too bad the deer are impressed as well.

What a pretty post! Every one of these daylilies has something special about it. While I love the pinks and purples, Mardi Gras Indian was the one that wowed me. I went back to look at that one several times. Too bad about the deer, groundhog and construction troubles with the hospital bed.

Today I went to the urgent care garden and discovered no deer damage. Then I quickly noticed that someone had cut several orienpet lily stalks, taking most of the stalk. One must deal not only with animals, but pesky humans as well. I will have to smear dog poop on the base of the flowers.

Mantis: Those hospital beds are lovely. You must be one determined man to have to put up with a brigade of plant digger uppers who see a bed full of peonies as a place to plop a tree. Did they think the soil got that way by itself?...........On another note I got Makayla Janelle this year too and its blooming as I type. I was pretty impressed by its first blooms................Maryl

Makayla Janelle is so pretty; I don't recall seeing that one before. Mardi Gras India is the kind of color I really like and Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee is just gorgeuntilous. What a nice colorful post. You must enjoy walking through the flowers at home and at the hospital untii you see where people who use their hands before they use their heads have caused damage.

Kay, it also gives great satisfaction to receive appreciation from people who view the urgent care beds. It's too bad that bad apples spoil things. It's obvious that the gardens are well tended and not meant as a picking garden for people whose immediate impulse is to destroy for their own selfishness. Of course, cutting lilies way down also reduces their vitality. It's not as though it were a zinnia.

Quite a collection of multiblooms. Nice plantings in the hospital/urgent care garden. Too bad that some lilies were taken. Today as my husband and I walked the historic downtown in our area, a homeowner had planted flowers outside of their fenced area along the sidewalk. And yes, visitors just assumed to snap off a bloom or two.
