Scent seems to be a little stronger.... size is still about an inch

Looks very pretty. Bloom size will get larger as the plant grows, same with fragrance. My W.S. 2000 bloom was the size of a quarter as band-size, now it's the size of a hamburger patty if well-fertilized. I don't get scent on a few of my roses until the 2nd or 3rd year.

I have a second bud on this little plant..... it has a bright magenta and just stating to open.... I noticed it did not have much scent last evening.... and more today.

I am thinking of calling him Firecracker. His first bloom opened on July 4th.... and he opens up to change colors.

I have a 2nd rose "bush" that is doing pretty well from seed.

Here he is the first day.... He has a pretty tight center.... I don't know if you would call it a spiral or not.... He has a nice scent.

I have noticed that most of the little roses that I have growing from seed right now have thorns.... all but the one in the top picture. He has now had 3 blooms.... and still no thorns... hoping he remains thornless....

rosecandian, I am not sure what the parents are..... I had the seeds marked in the hubby's fridge but forgot to mention it to them. He spilt the tray.

I think it has Lyda as one of the parents due to the scent, but I am not really qualified in determining anything about genetics. How scent, color and petal count is determined.... I have read some article that people have posted, but they are so "sciencey" that I just glaze over.

I love all your little rose photos. What a wonderful rose to smell good, have no thorns, and look so lovely. Don't worry about removing buds. I've never done it, and there's no science to support it. Continued good luck, but avoid hubby's fridge--ha. Diane

Oh they are beautiful! What are all the possibilities for the parents besides Lyda Rose. I bought those tiny pollen clipping scissors mentioned here and now I need to start collecting pollen from Valentine to cross with Cl Crimson Glory. So fun to see your progress. Keep the updates coming!

Stephanie, I have lots of possibilities, because I don't always deadhead because I like to try my hand at raising roses from seeds.... I do not get a high germination rate but I find it fun.

The only rose that I had with the same scent as my little seedling is Lyda. I do not know if roses can pick up scent from parents and grandparents.

Sharon, that does sound fun! I really want to try it too, but I first need to set up my drip system to go to some larger pots that could get automatically watered. Otherwise there is no chance they will make it. I have been letting some hips form on a few favorites. But my most prolific bloomer is Valentine; I swear it blooms every day of the year in SoCal. It has no scent so I wonder if a cross with Cl Crimson Glory might give a prolific bloomer with scent.

Here is firecracker's latest bud. It is lighter pink not the neon that it has been..... looking forward to see what color the flower will be.... I like how he changes. He gives me a real firework show... different looks.

I am thinking that I may need to move him to a bigger pot. I am very scared about doing it. I lost a lot of cuttings this past spring when I used the Miracle Grow potting mix in the yellow bag. I was ok with the blue bag so I think I will use that. I also have some vermiculite and some perilite .... do you think I should mix that into the blue bag of Miracle grow so it has good drainage. For some reason my potting mix pots get very compact. I think it is because I have to water them twice a day everyday.

What are your thoughts on this.

Firecracker has been living in my house under lights.... but I am thinking it is close to his time in going out into the world. I sure wish he was big enough to take a cutting so I have a better chance of keeping him going..

Outside on the shady area to start that baby should do great in a bigger pot. I'll look up the yellow bag MG to avoid.

rosecanadian yes, the picture you showed is the rose I call firecracker. He has long septals. He is thornless. He has a strong scent. And he changes color from his bud, to first opening to when he drops color.... Since he changes color (like fireworks) and his first bud was on the 4th of July, that is why I call him firecracker.

oops I missed the pink bud opening on firecracker. So I did not get a picture of that rose.

But I did get one. This bud opened red not magenta......

I just love how he has different colors.

Really? How cool!!! Usually different colors of roses on the same plant result from an aging bloom. Really unique!!
