Square off curved fireplace

Hi all,I am going to stone this entire wall, remove the TV rack, and pull the cables out, but before I do, I'd like to square off the curved fireplace/wood storage. How can I do that without removing anything? Disclosure: the previous owners glued laminate over the brick!!!! I cried when I found out. It's waaaaaay too expensive to get someone in here to do that. Anyways, what can I do? Pics in comments.Thanks!

Your pictures don’t expand to show detail. If you mean laminate as in plastic it will have to be removed within a foot of the firebox for code unless that’s a zero clearance firebox. I would remove it all and see what you have to work with at that point. Removal is practically free- pry bar and a hammer

@HALLETT & Co. Hi. Here is another pic of what I am dealing with. Maybe its veneer? This is more like a tug-o-war game with peel and stick crap. I think I can go over it. The fireplace and wood box have stone around them. The brick seemed really nice. :(

Pry off the wood surrounding the fireplace. My bet is you have squares underneath. Pry off the laminate. I don't know how you can square anything off without removing what you have. Possibly, more laminate/wallpaper/fake stone will be light enough to hlue on top of the existing laminate, but not anything that won't look cheap and fake. I'd plan to paint the brick.

Pull everything applied to the wall off til you get down to the original brick or plaster. You'll need a clean slate to build what you prefer.

Yes. Pull off that laminate or whatever it is. Work on it as you have time. When finished you will have a nice surface to use for your favorite covering.
