About 10% of my white butterfly ginger patch has this problem...a growing tip gets stuck in the leaf furl it's coming out of and never unfurls. Instead it forms a captive loop. Each succeeding growing tip does the same thing, so by the time I notice it there might be three captive tips, one preceding the other. I can pull them apart but they tend to get shredded when I do this.

Does anyone know what causes this problem? Is it too much or too little water, or just a problem that gingers have in general. I'm attaching a photo but it's not a good angle... it's the only one I haven't tried to unfurl.
