is it a brand new plant you just bought.. brought home.. and then tore apart??

yes.. dividing stress.. transplant stress .. and probably improper watering stress ...

if you can perfect watering.. it looks like it can recover

its stressed.. not hungry... fert is not a response to stress ...

Ken, I'm not sure how to read the tone of your response. It feels a little patronising, but nonetheless...

1. The pot is a self-watering one
2. The existing soil was moist but not sodden. The potting mix was dry.
3. It was one plant, bought weeks ago, that was growing quickly, with two distinct sections that were appropriate for careful division... So no I didn't simply "buy it then tear it apart".
4. The pebbles are for drainage as well as encouraging the plant to stay upright
5. I didn't say I fed it with fert' so not sure about your last point
