White Kitchen Backsplash Recommendations

We are eventually painting our maple cabinets Sherwin Williams Pure White. Looking for affordable recommendations for white backsplash (likely subway tile) that will match. Eventually tikes will be replaced with hardwood as well. Granite is quite busy so looking for something very simple. Thank you!

change to light counters/ light backsplash and youd be satisfied with the results. You would have the chance to eliminate the inappropriate counter edge . Then in a couple years get the new floor. Good Luck...really nice cabinets/ should be easy to work with but don't paint them.

Of everything in the kitchen (backsplash, cabinets, countertop, flooring), the last thing I would change is the cabinets; they are the nicest element. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear. However, agree would change backsplash. Good luck.

Your cabinets look great. I like the granite and your floor. In my opinion a new backsplash is all you need to update the space.

Would not paint those cabinets ... they look really great as is. Anything that is painted will, inevitably, need to be repainted and begin to look really awful as it gets that way.

Instead, consider using a much shorter back splash -- stopping at the bottom of the window frame and at that same height all around the kitchen -- and paint the walls above it instead in order to add the color you want to the room.

You could a Stainless Steel backsplash for above the stove top ... the width of the range hood... and stop it at the bottom of the range hood.

Agree with vjs12 and mdln and acm -- all you need to replace is the backsplash -- but suggest you replace it with less backsplash and more of your favorite color wall paint .

Your kitchen is already very nice! I agree; no paint to those cabinets. I also agree that a light or white simple backsplash will really make some pleasant changes. Good luck!

I'm another vote for not painting cabinets and finding a new lighter backsplash and using the money for new counters

I love your kitchen as is, just not that crazy about the backsplash.

Backsplash and wall color are the last 2 choices you make so wait until all the other elements are in place then come back for ideas. BTW make sure all the bulbs in all the fixtures are LED 4000K and I think spending money on painting ( done by a pro BTW) is a waster since the cabinets are a dated stlye for base cabinets which should all be drawers . IMO a new bcksplas will be huge improvement along with better lighting. Then when you can afford it do the floors and new cabinets to the ceiling for sure with all drawers for the bases

About subway backsplash tile------ we used a 4" x 16" tile, and white matching grout. The larger format appears less 'busy'. Even with the matching grout, smaller tiles will give more texture to the wall. I wanted a surface with less movement. Got the tiles as stock items from Home Depot.

And I agree about your cabinets, don't paint!

I agree with the others to leave the cabinets. I'm afraid that painting them will cheapen the look and take away the uniqueness of your space. A simple white-ish tile in a matte finish would really update your backsplash. And consider tiling all the way to the ceiling, above your cabinets.

If you can't replace the floors right now, think about adding a vintage rug in there. What is the style of the rest of your house?

Here are some tiles we're looking at for our kitchen remodel to give you a starting point. They're from here and here. Can you get samples of tiles to hold up in your room and see how they look with the countertops and cabinets?

I agree with ACM. White back splash (subway- you can look at some new ways or herringbone pattern. If you want more modern/on trend, switch out your knobs and pulls and your sink faucet with brass or black. I'd say black in your kitchen with the cabinets. You probably won't have to paint your cabinets (or just paint a few of the uppers). It looks like your paint matches the granite, so it probably will work and the back splash will tone down your counters.

It might be best to leave the cabinets as is. We suggest updating the hardware and backsplash only. Here is one of our designs that might help you move forward:

Your cabinets are beaytiful, I wouldn’t paint them. The backsplash is way too busy. Replace the backsplash and get new hardware.

Thanks so much everyone! We are going for the larger subway tiles.

As for hardware, currently we have all knobs on our cabinets and drawers. We will have to keep knobs on the drawers since we cannot fill in those holes but we’re wondering if we can switch the knobs on the cabinets to vertical bar pulls and reuse the existing holes from the knobs as the top hole on the lower cabinets and bottom hole on the upper cabinets. How far is it okay for the bars to start from the edge of the cabinets? What length bar pull is recommended? Thanks so much!
