Hit the Jackpot today!

I found Limelights and Little Limes on sale for $12.

Evidently they were mis-marked as they just came in. I started off with 2 then went back for 4 more after I realized the price.

I just had to share my lucky day!

Yes I half expected it! Its a good thing I didnt have a truck....

Now if it would just quit raining..i could get them in the ground.

Wow! So happy for you, that’s a great find! :) Do you know where you will plant them?

Maz thank you! I have plans for some...still contemplating the others.

With another stroll or two through the gardens I should have it figured out.

It’s too hot again, so I’m going to hold off for now and put them in a shady area until it’s cools off abit...

Make sure to look at the base of the plants and see it you have 3-4 stems,. If you do you can make 2 plants out of one like I did.. I used a powerfull saw zall with a new blade and made a clean cut right down the middle and both are doing good(been planted for about 6 weeks now). I got a $100 gift card for lowes and used over half of it on 2 hydrangeas(but made 4 plants)

Randy thanks I have done that with other shrubs, but I have close to 40 hydrangeas now...and I'm not buying/planting any more!

These 6, plus a LQF and 2 summer crush were planted today! Not to mention a handful of other plants. It was beautiful, nice and cool finally.....in the low 70’s : )

I thought I was going to lose them all as we had bad storms/tornadoes last saturday. Very scary...Lost power and water for 4 days in the miserable heat.

I did shade them with burlap but after those 4 hot days they were looking really bad. Surprising the Summer crush held up the best.

As soon as the power/water came on I filled up the wheelbarrow and took turns soaking them all really good. The Limelights needed pruning as the got tossed around pretty bad.

Glad to have that nightmare behind me and now have them in the ground.....

Thats crazy you lost water during a power outage? I am assuming you are on a well?

Yes we are all on wells in my area. Times when you wish you were wired for a generator.

They were selling like hotcakes to those that are....

GardenHo: 40 hydrangeas!! It must be beautiful at this time of the year, when they’re all blooming.

    Which variety is your favorite?

Gardenho: Those storms last weekend were crazy, weren't they!?! The area where one of the tornadoes hit is just a few miles north and east of me. I waited it out in the basement with the pooch. Didn't lose power, fortunately, but other parts of my community did. DH and I are getting quotes on whole-house generators, we're on a well too and that is my primary reason for having a bug up my butt about the generator. We've been lucky so far the power has always come back on the same day, but sooner or later our luck is going to run out...

Glad you're up and running again. Post pics when you get these planted!

Maz my favorite is the Limelight standard. New last year. Here it is tonight turning white now.....(To the back right is a QF. I really like these also...so much prettier in person)

Mx thanks, and yes the storms were terrifying! You must not be too far from me, as one touched down very close here. Winds were 105mph. I sure dont want to experience that ever again!

I need to check into generator also. My house is old so it would most likely cost a small fortune...

wow!!! You are really, really lucky! I have the tree version and I love it!

GardenHo: that’s a beautiful limelight specimen!

And I agree about Quick Fire. I actually want to add one, but haven’t seen it in stores this year and last year.

Maz thank you. I’m really looking forward to watching it grow.

I don’t see a lot of QF’s around here, more LQF. Maybe due to their size? Hopefully you'll come across one soon...

I sure hope you find one. I have never seen them in big box stores. I bought mine from a local nursery maybe 2 gallon container. 3 years later, mine is huge and I now need to expand my flower bed. I am attempting to propagate some now for my daughter. I hope you find one. They are glorious.

So the quick fire basically blooms white but turns red? How long does it stay red??

    white

    Blush

    pink

I believe it stays pink for a month or longer... never timed it.

Randy it’s not really red it’s more of a pink... I’ll post some better pics. They bloom close to 3 mos depending on the weather

GardenHo, Thanks for the pics, That so nice!!

    Youre welcome!

Randy I thought I’d show you how QF has now deepened to a beautiful rich dark (what I consider) mauve...

    and here behind Limelight

    Stunning!!

I also bought a hydrangea from lowes called vanilla strawberry and its suppose to do something simular to QF. heres the tag

Oh good! I have 2 of these. Be sure to give them room as they tend to be floppers. I planted mine in a slightly raised bed so they can drape over the edge...

Just came back here to say that I finally found a Quick Fire! woo-hoo! :)
