A Tough But Important Decision

The time has come, for me to lip-sync for my legacy.

Actually, it's a bit more dire than that. I have made the decision to leave my current home and move to the big city of Denver (if anyone's there, let me know, could use a few friends).

Sadly, I'll only be taking clothes and some personal belongings, so my plant children can't come along, unfortunately. But seeking new homes locally for them where they'll be loved and cared for.

This wasn't an easy decision for me, and I am NOT getting out of the hobby by any means. Just gonna be tough letting all my plants go (Hoyas and non-Hoyas alike).

Fresh start, new plants, time to make my place in the world.

Much love,

~Brad AKA Moonwolf (howling happily)

Thank you, everyone! I leave the 11th and I arrive at Union Station in the morning of the 13th.

Popmama, I found a relatively cheap apartment on N. Marion Street. I requested info/appointment for the day I arrive. Nothing definite for sure, and I still need to book a hotel reservation, as well.

As for my Hoyas, and a few other house plants, some are staying here at home with my parents, and the majority went to a co-worker/manager, and her friend.roommate who were in need of some house plants and they will be very well cared for.

Happy to hear you got a place to live and I'm glad your plants got good homes. Safe journey!

Well, technically I don't have a place, yet. Still hoping a roommate offer comes along, or a decently priced apartment (one with nice windows and a decent sized kitchen). My little plant paradise only exists in my brain for now, but oh, the excitement of making it a reality!

Brad, I wish you all the very best in your move and in starting out fresh again in life. Remember, it's never the destination, its always the journey along the way that makes things interesting.

Again, wishing you all the best. Once you're settled in, give us a shout on here or via email and let us know how you're doing.

    Stay well my friend.

Brad, same here. Give me a shout or let us know how things go for you. That is a huge move and I know where you are it's a lot of country. Hopefully it was not because someone there hurt you but because you just wanted a change. Life can be tough, but not when surrounded by good friends and you certainly have a few in us my friend. Be happy and safe and the plants will be ok.

I feel like Dorothy on her journey to the Emerald City now. Amazed, a little frightened (okay, petrified, to be honest), but hopeful.

I will keep you all posted here. Just applied to two more job openings there (Denver Botanical Gardens-the gift shop, and to JoAnn Fabrics). I am definitely moving because a change is needed in my life. I would have moved long ago if I was hurt. Then again, I was hurting, but didn't have the means to travel/move. I am ready for new happenings, new friends, and a change of scenery. Denver's beautiful, from what I've seen online and what friends have said. LOTS to do and see. Who knows, maybe I'll find that special someone there, too.

Found an apartment! Once my friend/roommate finishes his application, it'll be reserved in my name and taken off the market! It's a cute little place and a friend of both of ours lives in the same building. The best part is we're all plant crazies and we'll be living it up :).

Glad to hear the pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fall into place. All of us on here who know you Brad, are pulling for your well being, happiness and success.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

    All the best always....

Let me know if you need any recommendations for plant shops to explore. I know them all! I think this means I have an obsession.

Popmama, are any of them hiring?! I am in dire need of a job (preferably not serving, but I can do that for a time being, just not something like Pizza Hut). I messaged one (Rosehouse) on FB, but they haven't read it yet. There's a few others as well I'd like to try for. I need a job where I can be happy about what I do and do the job well.

A few small hiccups in getting the apartment, but I hope they're taken care of. I'll know Tuesday morning when the lady's back in the office. I really hope this works out.

Try City Floral. It's a full service garden center. Very nice (expensive, but nice).

You can also call ReRoot Gardens. It's a small boutique plant shop and they probably don't hire a ton of people but it is somewhat close to where you will be. If anything else comes to mind, I'll let you know.

Scored an interview with JoAnn Fabrics the day of my arrival! I'll still look around for something plant related as well :).

Another phone call for another interview! I'll have to call them back tomorrow, but it's for Bath and Body Works in Cherry Creek Mall! Maybe I'll try to persuade them to make a Hoya lacunosa lotion/perfume scented fragrance.

    GG! We've missed you lady!

Still looking around/waiting to hear further about the apartment. I think once I know I have a place, I'll be less anxious and nervous. Did some more packing this evening (had the day off from work). I just really hope that it'll be worth it.

Thank you. ^^ Yeah I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better once some more pieces are nailed down but it sounds like you’re working hard at it. Must be scary to ship yourself off without roots like a Hoya cutting but I’m sure you’ll be sprouting new growth in no time.

Good luck with the move Brad! I'm also in the Denver metro area and apt hunting is beastly, but there are a lot of jobs out there so hopefully you land one that you're really excited about. Sending you good juju! Let me know when you're settled in, I'll share some cuttings to help make your new house homey!

I'm scared to death, but doing it anyway. I just need to get out of Pennsyltucky for good. There's nothing for me here. I know I'll have a better life in Denver.

SP, well hey future neighbor! And thank you! I'd appreciate that! I don't wanna go too crazy at first, but I'd definitely would be appreciative of some new cuttings!

    Wish list to start:

    ~rosarioae

    ~cv. Sunrise

    ~pubicalyx Red Buttons

    ~panchoi

    ~cv. Rosita

Those are my top five, but open to others. Definitely want a String of Hearts, Monstera adansonii, Monstera siltepecana, and a Philodendron Prince of Orange.

    Brad AKA Moonwolf

You seem to like the rose named ones - is there an underlying theme for you?

I have all of these, you can have cuttings: String of Hearts, Monstera adansonii, Monstera siltepecana. Prince of Orange is harder because it's not a 'cutting' type of philodendron. But the best way to buy it is in the Fairy Garden section. I got mine in a 2" pot and now it's huge.

GG, roses are one of my favorite flowers. My favorite shade of pink is dusty rose. The Rose is one of my favorite songs and movies. Rose Tint My World from Rocky Horror. Maybe it's my inner drag queen trying to tell me something ;). I love the color of the flowers on both Rosita (dark pink) and rosarioae (pink/orange).

Popmama, bless you! I'll be messaging you when I do get an apartment (hopefully soon). I keep hoping my fairy godmother shows up and shows me my little dream spot.
