Let’s see some hosta flowers

I love my hosta flowers! They are beautiful, some of them smell heavenly and the bees need them! They are also very helpful when trying to identify hostas.

So here are some of mine and please share yours:

So, most of my flower pics aren't worth posting. Here's a few that are.

    Barracuda:

    Azure Frills

Here's the flowers from that Kaleidochrome seedling bud I showed earlier.

Another fragrant seedling revealed itself today. my goal is to get a reliable fragrant and fertile hosta. emphasis on fertile. which currently doesnt exist. the fragrant ones have fertility block. im guessing 5% viability. And there is no guarntee it will be fragrant. i got one seedling from about 50 pods of summer fragrance last year.

War and peace. Dark reddish purple flower. the green leaves are pretty boring tho. its quite prolific so i will attempt to make it more interesting.

and every one wants a solid flower that color.

Fantastic flowers all! hosta_maker those War and Peace flowers are very desirable.

Still waiting on some and have not taken many close ups.

Bridegroom finally put on a good display.

Fire and Ice is a great example of when the buds are better than the flowers.

    Gemstone

    Goober just starting.

    Lemon Frost and London Fog

Praying Hands does not have great flowers but has a lot of them this year.

Finally sorted through the rest of my pics. Here's what I deem worthy to post. Flemish Beauty

    Love Song

    Midnight Oil

Peek-a-Boo Purple and seed pods from previous seedling flower pic. Interesting that this seedling's pod parent is the fragrant Mojito and this is a prolific seed setter. However, the flowers are not fragrant. I suppose I'm not as surprised now thanks to Hosta Maker's observation.

A different seedling's flowers (and bee).

    flowers from a yellow/viridescent seedling

Stand By Me - a lot like June, go figure

    Winter Snow

(never mind the ones I didn't post, lol). Oops I skipped June

Thanks, Debra. I ignore Tattoo, because I am sure it will die if I notice it. I try not to take a picture of it as the main focus. When I water it, I pretend it was by accident. When it looks pretty, I tell it that it has to stay in its pot of NC clay soil mixed with oak leaves. Really, Tattoo and I have a complex relationship, sort of a prolonged driveway treatment. It tried to bolt on me in the first few days after I got it, while it was still in the PDN grower pot with PDN growth media, before I repotted it to the clay mixture. I spent the next month watering it with undiluted antifungal. So, I am sure it will misbehave if I praise it. Naughty plant.

Irish Eyes just getting started in one of my weedy beds

This one comes with a story from years ago. I was at Wade and Gatton, after a great day and getting my order written up, when a car pulls up. It was Dick and Jane Ward, come to visit Van. And my sister and I are standing there with one of their plants in our hands! They were lovely people, chatted a bit about what a nice plant i had picked, LOL! That’s it for my encounters with Famous Hosta folks - other than Van Wade, whose place I visited many times.
