Might it just be too hot? You could try giving it some shade, moving it to a cooler spot...

Thank you Carolb I did think of that. What Ive read is full sun but it has been really hot. Im new to hibiscus in this area of FL . just wondering if its the heat or Im missing something else?? Perhaps its time to put it in the ground but not sure if it can take our dips in temps here in winter considering its a tropical. i really dont have to many choices for partial shade. Hoping someone that might have experience in my area - Gainesville - will chime in.

I have grown this a few times. I found that they get very root bound very quickly. It looks that way to me in the picture.

==>> in my ground freeze MI .. on a similar brick patio ... on a long sunny day.. you could walk out there in january in bare feet .. trust me.. they can get hot ...

as to root bound.. that makes it a watering issue ... which is exactly what we are seeing ..

ya know .... you could probably tie this thing to the bumper and drag it around the block .. and barely kill it ... so dont worry about it.. or think something must immediately be done ... just protect it a bit.. water it properly.. and plant in in the next proper season ... in other words.. im not sure i would repot it in august either ...

Agree with all you said. Came to the conclusion not to repot, now anyway. its loving all this rain dumping on us again. Its putting out a bunch of buds. This will be its first full bloom since i got it…..deer took it down awhile back just when it was budding out. The yellowing leaves have slowed way down and new leaves are coming in too. i do believe it was the heat. im going to move it to an area with a little more shade and top off the pot with a little more soil. thanks again Ken for your input.

This looks like heat stress to me. The roots of a potted plant, even one that likes full sun, sitting on a brick/concrete surface get too hot in our summer temps. In addition heat stress is a condition that occurs in plants when excessive heat causes an imbalance in transpiration, the process by which moisture evaporates from the plant’s tissues. When that rate of evaporation exceeds the pace at which moisture is being replaced through water taken up by the roots, the plant becomes dehydrated. The instinctive response then is to water. But the roots can only absorb so much water at one time.

Giving this plant full sun doesn't have to be all day in Florida because of the sun's intesity. All morning sun will satisfy its needs.

If this is a truly tropical hibiscus you don't want to plant it in the ground because our wintersget too cold…most years. It would die to the ground but would probably come back in the spring. I brought mine in when temps stayed gelow 40 degrees.
