Front door color?

last modified: 5 years ago

Edit: Updated door posted in comments below, would like opinions on the new color.

Hello,

I was going to replace my front doors, but will just be painting them for now along with new hardware. What color would you paint them? Should I just match the greige garage door?

Will a blue like De Nimes from farrow ball work? Any other ideas?

Thank you

I think that color would look good. So would a creamy white or a charcoal. Whatever color you chose, paint the grids in the windows that same color.

yes get rid of the grids if you can't paint. I think you can actually replace the windows if the grids can't be painted.

It’s a classic color and works well with the brick. Maybe also consider a muted grey on the garage door (and include trim for a less broken up look). I think the combination will feel warm and very complementary.

I think that’ll look lovely. With brass hardware.

Thank you everyone! The grids are in between 2 panels of glass, so I do not think I can paint those, if I replace should it just be plain glass?

Also, is it weird to have blue doors when not much of my interior is blue

Perfect color options! Can't go wrong with either. I prefer the lighter version.

Your interior doesn't need to be blue to match your entry doors. My thought is to chose whatever works best with the tones and style of the exterior of your home, which you've done.

An interesting color. It would look great with your brick and stone facade. It can read blue or gray. It doesn’t matter what colors that you have inside of the house. Leave your garage neutral. Do you want it to stand out? No. It is a garage. The color on the door is fine.

Thank you for the excellent advice! Im likely going to order this paint soon, just selecting hardware as well.

I dont think ill be painting the garage, its a nice neutral factory finished paint

    Hi everyone!

So door was finally painted the de nimes color, but im not so sure about how i feel about it. Opinions? Maybe its the fall decor throwing the color off? My roof is brownish so im just worried there are too many colors going on now.

Please let me know how you feel, hate it? Love it? Im looking for your honest opinion

Also please ignore the lawn, our mower broke

    Thank you!

    I love the door color!

But the gray planters muddy the look because they blend in with the door, instead of accenting it. Try moving the gray planters elsewhere (outside edge? base of steps?), replacing them (for now) with orange pumpkins. How does that look to you?

Love the color, good choice. The white grids have to go, if at all possible. They don’t match in style with any of your window grids, and my eye goes to them instead of all the nice elements you have.

I’d replace with plain glass, seeded glass, or grids that match your window styles and painted (see below) as well as another color of blinds or other covering. It would make a huge difference.

I agree with nickel about the pots, paint them a contrasting color, like dark brown.

I hope I don’t offend, but I don’t like the stark black modern fixture with the more traditional style of house. I think bronze or dark brown, and a more transitional style, would look so much better and more cohesive. But that’s just me being nitpicky, and again, I hope I'm not offending you.

Antique brass fixture with door handles like yours (same in above photo):

To be honest - I would match the window color on the door. It should look clean and crisp like the windows do.

Lovely! I would pile some more pumpkins, gourds, corn, next to the pots that you have beside your beautiful door. That way, they will bring that color up to the door. It will blend nicely. As spring approaches, re think your planters next to the door. Perhaps consider another color or a more modern shape to add some more personality to the space. And underplant your plants with colorful annuals, draping ivy, etc. A large door mat. Done! Very nice.

Thank you everyone! I am happy most of you like it, maybe I just need to adjust to the change. What color should I paint the planters? Or I could just do new planters all together. The figs will be going inside for the winter, and ill probably do winter decor in there.

Ill also look for another larger rug, should it be blue?

As for the hardware, I actually agree it is more modern than I was anticipating, however they were kind of expensive so I shall have to live with it for now.

heres a quick pictute I took from my car showing the full house
