one might suggest you lost the whole border.. because you planted a monoculture .. all of one kind of a plant ...

so i would caution you.. regardless fo what plant you decide on ... not to replant a monoculture ...

in other words.. plant one of everything you can find.. lol .. sky is the limit ... or budget ...

a pic of the spot.. would sure get you better ideas ... use the camera/photo button below the box you type a reply in ... and wait until it focuses before hitting send.. it is best if you are already signed in ....

and may as well add a big city name .. as min winter temp.. zone.. isnt real helpful ...

That saxifrage is most interesting. I've only seen rohdea one or twice and thought it was exceedingly dull.

Got my pictures out of order. The picture at the bottom is the bed in question. The liriope that came down with crown rot is in the middle of the picture. Did not have time to dig it, just pulled all of the loose blades and sprayed a bleach solution in the area. It's coming back now, but from what I've read the crown rot will probably reoccur. I could just dig all of this section out and just edge the blade with a shovel. But, I was just toying with doing something DIFFERENT with a rohdea border. The picture below is a rhodea that planted last year.

The other reason I was thinking about the rohdea is I found 2 large, root bound ones at a local nursery for $6 each. I divided those into 8 good sized plants. They have several more, which I may go buy. At $6, why not. If I don't use them, I can divide them and give them away or trade them.

Aspidistra (plain green form) grow taller than Rhodea, so you may not want them in the front of your bed. Both are tough plants and tolerate dry shade.
