Do these chairs look too big?

I purchased these pottery barn upholstered chairs for my dining room. Now I think they may look too big for the space. What do you think? I’m planning to replace my rug and possibly get new curtains as well.

    Not to me!

Love them. I’d add them all around the whole table not just at the heads.
    Was that the plan?

Thank you! I’d love to replace my current chairs with more upholstered chairs, but my husband is not on board. We spent a lot of money on our current chairs (14 years ago:(). He doesn’t get it:(

I like the PB chairs. I also like the curtains. I think the right rug will tie everything together.

I like it, would get a bigger rug.

I agree with Tracey about using a bigger rug. Your space is definitely big enough to handle it. I like the upholstered chairs and your curtains. The side chairs are nice but seem a bit heavy in appearance. You might consider painting them in a lighter color to lighten them up. Overall it’s a very pretty space.

I might add too that the same goes for the mirror above buffet. It has a heavy frame so maybe swapping it out for a thinner gold frame and with a more rounded or ornate design.

    Another vote for bigger rug.

I am planning on replacing this rug with a 9x12.

I agree with the other comments. Your dining room is lovely. I like both the upholstered chairs and the black chairs. I would keep them as is. I also like the drapes and would only change then if they clash with whatever rug you choose. The mirror does look too chunky - have you considered hanging a large piece of artwork their instead?

Thank you djmbott! I’d love to, but my husband loves that mirror :(. I’m going to invest in a rug and then wok on convincing him we need colorful artwork instead!

Can people sit in the chairs without their legs pressing up against the table? That would be my only concern. Other than that they are lovely!

Thank you! A designer on Houzz recommended a few rugs. This is one that I’m leaning towards. What do you all think?

This is another rug I love, but I think it could be too busy for my room.

Here is a pic with it in my space.

    I love them!

Thank you! Which do you think looks best?

I love the neutrals in your first rug. The others are too bright and busy for me and compete with the cow painting.

    Thank you!!!

I like the first rug with the aqus blue. i would skip the cow painting and keep the mirror for now. it shows off your pretty chandelier.

Thank you Mel! My cow painting is actually hanging in my kitchen in an open concept space.

I love this painting with the aqua rug.

I like the 2 upholstered chairs & the blue rug, The other rug does ”match” the cow painting but it’s too busy for me when combined with granite counters & other textures you have. The blue rug pattern is also detailed but its strong lines & clean color placement goes well with style of DR furniture - including the mirror! The drapes don’t look bad with the blue rug - they don’t play well at all with the other rug. I’d add touches of the darker blue in rug to the table centerpiece & the buffet. That whole combo really creates a more vibrant dining setting.. Hope your little pup has recovered from the reason it’s wearing the ’cone of shame’ 😉

No, it is the rug that is too small. Try your furniture with no rug. You have beautiful floors; show them off.

Who says you need a rug?

FYI, I think the chandelier is hung too high. Would you measure off table top?

30 to 34 inches over a table with an 8 foot ceiling height.

Do you think I can get away with the aqua blue rug if my living room has warmer colors?

Is your LR on opposite side of staircase as you enter front door? I prefer a color scheme that flows from room to room especially when rooms can be viewed together from multiple vantage points. Doing this connects the rooms visually & also makes it easy to swap & move accessories around for a new look or purpose. So, even though my vote was for blue rug as style complements dining furniture, with this additional info, I would look for a rug with a design like the blue one but with colors that blend with LR rug. Looks like that means reds. Perhaps reds flow better with things in your kitchen? The cow picture for sure….

I think that’s why I initially liked this rug. It has blues along with red and green.

Yes, the living room is on the other side of the wall.

I don’t disagree about the colors being better but the busy design wouldn’t be my choice. The blue rug design is a stronger & simpler design like your LR rug is. That’s what attracts me to the blue rug - the design is so great with the strong lines & style of your DR furniture & also doesn’t compete with the ”busy” granite counters in the adjacent kitchen. Any chance the blue rug is available in other colors?.
