What a show plus bugs bugs bugs

This photo can't begin to show the brightness of these clumps. VT Melon and VT Sophie have anywhere from 10-20 flowers EACH Every Day! The VTs all around it have a combined total of 15-25 and are on either side of Melon and Sofie. So wonderful for this time of year. The front clump is Melon has less yellow in it than the picture shows. You also need to click on the photo to see the whole thing.

We have had so much rain again this summer that the bugs are outrageous. You step outside and all kinds of bugs are all around you--gnats, flies and much more. The Damsel flies are really having a feast. Fortunately there are many hundreds of them.

I finally got seeds from a Vintage Wine x Belle Isle Sentry cross. VW is our favorite purple and a good performer. BIS has the rebloom plus it is a great bloomer over all and extra early. It is also fairly sun fast. VW is good to a point then wilts. Hoping to get the best of both.

Nice daylilies! What a welcome sight in the late garden!

We had so many mosquitos but they died down after it got dry. It's raining now so we will probably have another round of them. Other than mosquitos, we seem to have had fewer bugs than normal, especially Junebugs and Japanese beetles.

I hate to say this, but about now I'm getting weary of the garden. It's been 100 or over and dry and I'm doing well just to drag the hose around to water. However, having said that I must say that those daylilies of yours are certainly a bright spot for this time of the year. They both are beautiful, but I especially like the Melon VT. So glad to see them in someone's garden and hear about their performance...........Maryl

Brad these are certainly a bright spot in your garden. Amazing late bloomers. And they don’t have to compete with any others so their simple beauty can be appreciated.

Kate, that is so true. There is no competition with the fancier varieties. They just look pretty. I've been doing some crosses with them to see what happens. Nothing else compares with the number of buds, scapes and blooms every singe year. I hope to spread that around.

One bug we haven't had is the Japanese Beatles, thankfully. I think we are stuck with the bugs until colder weather. We have a small creek at the back of our yard, there are a couple of swampy ponds in the cross country field and woods behind our neighborhood, and of course the wetness of the ground. Twice this week we again had a huge downpour and nearly an inch each time. But at least it is not drought.
