Nearby Slurry Seal Causing Stone Work Reaction

Our city slurry sealed our street this week. Hours after they were finished, we went outside and discovered our front yard stone work with this weird mottling. We have a tree, a lot of stone work, and the front porch bannister covered with a gritty dirt substance. Has anyone had something like this happen?

Most everyone on your street had it happen to them too.

Start with a broom. Is it dry and will it sweep off? if so you can just hose everything off or wait for a good rain. If it is sticky you can power wash it off the stone and front bannister. Maybe. On the tree it will just have to wear off with time.

"Slurry seal is an asphalt emulsion mixed with fine sand and gravel". if you are lucky they were mixing the two as they went and the agitation of the sand and gravel was just making dust.

It is dry and will not sweep off. The stone seems to be reacting to the chemical somehow-- little circles are formed on the face of the stone,.
