Experiences with NIRP Roses?

I ordered two NIRP roses from Palatine last fall. Both of them are already bigger than anticipated.

Rosemantic Red was described as under 3ft. but is easily over 5ft. It’s a lovely cool red that is always in bloom - much to the delight of the Japanese beetles who can’t get enough of it!

The second NIRP rose I ordered was Rosersie de Chatelet. I had to move this rose in thr spring and it had severe transplant shock. Despite the set back, it’s around 4.5 feet now. it had been described as 3-4 feet. She’s a lovely rose, but not fragrant at all to my nose.

I am wondering if others are having the same experience with NIRP roses. Maybe it‘s because they are grafted? Perhaps they are like Austins and just grow bigger in the states?

So we will say YES to Gruaud Larose!

Which of these do I NOT NEED?

    Amour de Molene

    Crazy Fashion

Rosemantic Cream (Based on Di's experience, I think I need this one)

    The Pride

Are any an absolute must for you?

On my Kordes wishlist: Adorable Parfuma, Buxom Beauty, and Flora Colonia

I keep reading mixed reviews on fragrance. Not to mention I'm trying to navigate sites written in German, Dutch, and French haha. On the mixed review page are Kosmos Fairy Tale and Uetersen's Rose Queen. Some list these as strongly fragrant, some list them as slight. ugh..

Sunny, for some reason Kosmos Fairytale was a complete dud for me .

Thanks Kristine! That helps knock another off the list. Progress!🙌🙌

Sunny - I wish I knew what gardenias smell like. lol Anastasia probably wouldn't be fragrant for me...happens a lot with my roses. But thanks for letting me know. :)

I agree with Oursteelers - Gruaud Larose is wonderful!! Sweet Delight, La Fontaine aux Perles are two others that I love.

Yes, La Fontaine aux Perles is another great one-another LARGE one!

Roseraie du Chatelet has been a black spotty mess all summer, but man… her blooms right now are gorgeous.

    Markay .... oooh! :) :)

What are thoughts on Parfum Tropical? Did anyone try this? I'm also thinking of trying Broceliande and Amour de Molene.

Sunny - your Broceliande is beautiful and you love yours...so I'm going to get that one. :)

@rosecanadian Im so happy youre going to try Beoceliande! The blooms are all so different, should stay visually interesting while you wait for the fragrance to work its way out.

@rosecanadian and @oursteelers 8B PNW would you please compare Gruaud Larose to Francis Meilland? On the screen they seem similar to me. I have Francis Meilland and LOVE him!

I've never grown Francis Meilland. I do know that it's resistant to Downy Mildew. Almost every rose I have had DM this summer. But Gruard Larose didn't get any. :)

I don’t have Francis either, sorry!

I cannot recommend FM highly enough—gorgeous, fragrant, long lasting roses that are worth a little TLC given it’s tender here in zone 5.

How is Gruad Larose for thrips?

I don’t remember them being a problem last year

La Fountaine aux Perles (light pink) AFTER being pegged this winter. Still topping at six feet. we shall see if she gets much taller this year.

Erasmus - my Gruaud Larose had thrips problems last year (first year rose for me).

Not the prettiest rose for me sometimes. I'm hoping this will improve.

Sunny - oooh...I love your La Fontaine aux Perles!! She's a big rose, though. :)

Sweet Delight this spring. She has a tropical-fruity fragrance that is unlike any other fruity-scented rose I’ve smelled. Not citrus-fruity. Definitely delicious!

@rosecanadian La Fountaine aux Perles is so much larger than i thought she would be. But she’s in a good spot so i dont have to move her thank goodness. Definite for a fragrance wishlist if they bring it back next year.

    what a beauty!

    Now my posts are dissapearing

Sunny - and Sweet Delight's fragrance is ALWAYS there...it never takes a sick day. :) :) Yours is beautiful!! I adore the centers of LFaP. :) Gorgeous!!

Kristine - I can see this post. Are you trying to post pics?

I was trying to post Rosemantic Fuschia

These are some over the top beautiful roses ! Hard to pick a favorite

Kristine - uber healthy looking and it's got lots of flowers and buds...love!

I cannot get over how clean this bush is! I am no-spray hot and humid zone 8b Mississippi AND LOOK at this La Fountaine aux Perles!!!

I got 'Audabe' this year. No idea if its good. Palatine promised me it doesn't get bad centers, as Freedom Gardens said in their sales list.

The 1st year growth is very nice so far, which is a good sign. Its planted 10' from the also new 'Bring Me Sunshine' directly from DA online, and its leafing out poorly.

A feature I appreciate on the Palatine site is that you can filter the roses by healthy and very healthy. My new rule for ordering from Palatine is that the rose must at least appear on the healthy list.

Hands down Palatine sends the healthiest roses. There are quite a few other nurseries that I’ve always been satisfied with but no one is like Palatine

Sunny - what a wonderful La Fontaine aux Perles!!! Luscious, huge, and floriferous...and healthy!! I love mine too!!

Roseraie du Chatelet with darker pink Roxy peeking through

the blooms aee so heavy this spring that they have been nodding.

Great planning putting those two roses together! They are both so beautiful and really look great together.

Parfum Royal. Huge blooms in a shiny clean pink.

Johanna, I got Parfum Royale this year. It is very healthy, thriving, beautiful shade of pink, fragrant, and has lots of buds. Wow, that sounds pretty good! My only negative is that I wish it had a few more petals, but it’s a newbie and it has been hot. Could change?

    Johanna, what a stunning backdrop.

Johanna - your Parfum Royale has very lovely blooms. What fabulous scenery!!!

My Rosemantic Fuchsia has finally decided to bloom well for being grown in a pot.

Close up of the blooms, which smell like candy. Really healthy leaves.

Carol, that’s a lot of pretty blooms!

Carol, my Rosemantic Fuchsia is an incredible rose: perfect foliage, perfect blooms and just healthy and happy all the time. I hadn’t noticed the candy smell! I need to check it tomorrow and see if I catch that scent on mine.

    Thanks, Kentucky. :)

Judy - yours is even more beautiful than mine!!! The color on yours is extra special!! SWOOON!!!

Carol, my guess is that the lighting conditions make mine look a different color than yours. Some of my photos of this rose look very different than the last photo I posted.

Judi - that sounds logical. That photo, though...mmmmm :)

I’m still sad I was never able to get Rosemantic Fuchsia because is sold out too quickly.

Markay - yeah. It's too bad. I doubt we'll ever get access to those roses again. But, thankfully, there are always other new roses. :)

This is Rosemantic Red at its peak first flush bloom.

That’s jaw dropping gorgeous abundance, Markay!!

    Markay !!! Sensational bloomer!!! SWOOOON!!!

Oh wow, I have Rosemantic Pink, but I think I now need Fuchsia and Red. Wow. My mom has Rosemantic Cream and that one is stunning too. Amour de Molene has been a fantastic rose for me, albeit at least 6 feet tall by now. It does stay quite narrow though, so perfect for back of the bed.

SD!!! - SWOOOON!!! Those are gorgeous!!! Your Gruaud Larose is exceptional!!!! Much prettier than mine. :) :) Amour is wonderful, too!!

SD, both roses are gorgeous! Carol’s pictures and recommendations enabled me to get Gruaud Larose this year. Your beautiful picture is an enabler, too!

Kentucky_rrose - are you happy with yours?

Carol, Yes, I’m very happy with Gruaud Larose, beautiful bloom and healthy bush. Ty!

Kentucky_rose - oh, that's good. I'm still not sold on mine. It could certainly be better. No disease, though. :)
