Planting wormwood seeds

For quite a while I've wanted to either divide my wormwood or start some new ones from seeds. I see the seeds forming on my plants now. My question is can I just plant them this year? When? I'd rather not wait until spring and have to start them inside if I can avoid it. I am in zone 5.

find the proper latin name.. then google up seed starting ... using that name ...

is it annual or perennial in your area ... if annual ... there would be no use starting seed now ... as it really isnt a houseplant .... [z5 is about half the US.. big city name would help]

if its perennial ... and you have a large established plant.. i would just divide it in sept or so ... how about a pic of your plant.. so we can opine ...

collect the seed in an envelope ... while you await the proper planting season ... august usually isnt seed starting time ... though of course.. all the flowers are dumping seed everywhere just about now ... but that doesnt mean they are germinating ...

Here is a photo. I am not sure of the latin name as there seems to be many varieties and even common names. I've seen it called Wormwood, Angel's Hair, Silver mound, etc. The picture makes it look green, but it really is silver/grey.

I am in Chicago. It is a perennial and has come back the last 5 years.

It’s Artemisia schmidtiana or cultivar thereof. Since its a hardy perennial I’d sow seed as soon as it is ripe and leave the pots outside over winter. But if it is a cultivar seedlings will not be gentically identical to the parent and may well look different. To get clones take cuttings. Google the botanical name for instructions.

or post a better pic..with a scale in the NAME THAT PLANT FORUM ...

i dont trust sites that dont use proper names ...

a plant that size should be easily dividable .. id probably cut it back in fall ... and take half out ... leaving the rest ... and then divide the part taken further ...

have you ever seen seedling in the 5 years youve had the plant ... if not.. though perennial.. the seeds may not winter over outdoors ...

NOTHING need be started indoors ... but it will take longer to grow a mature plant from seed ... forcing indoors is just a system to attempt to speed the process up ...

z5 is about half the US and very divergent ... how about a big city name ...
