It looks like the "true date" to me (Phoenix dactylifera).

You're right, true date have "issues" with Florida (as do a lot of people).

Had a feeling that it was a true date. From what I see the dates that they produce aren't that great of a quality here as they rot early on, but I have seen many instances of them being grown as ornamentals here, though I have also seen many of them dying around here too. I love these palms they always look so great to me and I find it cool that they are the same palms that produce dates, and many people are just going around unaware of that.

It's too wet and humid for proper fruit development and ripening in Florida. You'll never find a date farm in Florida. In the US, they are in CA and AZ, possibly in South Texas. Think desert.
