Screened in Deck

To me, I think any wood trim next to the white ceiling should be painted white instead of the stain color. I only want to see a crisp white ceiling, uninterrupted by a line of brown. Am I being too picky? Thoughts? Thanks!!

If you prefer white, paint it white. Looks like you have already painted most of it, go ahead and finish it off if that's what you like.

This is how it looked before they installed the screen and I LOVED it.

The very 1st picture is when they installed the wood piece that they would attach the frames to. That piece was painted white. Then they attached the screen and the trim on the screen was stained. It's this trim work that I am having a problem with being brown against the white ceiling. I hope all this makes sense.

Like I said, if you prefer white, paint it white. If for some reason the screen gets in the way of it being completely white, then you would need to switch out the screen panels for ones that come already trimmed in white instead of being stained.

@beesneeds, they are finished. This would be something I ask them to change.

Well, if they are finished, your options are to call them in to change it, or paint it yourself, or keep it as is for a while and see if you can live with it and perhaps let it fade into the background once it's not so new and you get used to it.

@beesneeds I was asking for an opinion on brown v. white. You have not given yours, but thank you for your comments.

Your question was "Am I being too picky?" "Thoughts?" Yes, you are. My thoughts: I like the interesting detail of the contrasting trim because it highlights the ceiling angle and provides some architectural interest. If you don't like it, paint it. It's not rocket science.

I have the same screened in deck at my new home. Entire ceiling and trim painted the same dark taupe/brown (this color is a bit darker than the trim on the rest of the outside of house). Begging my husband to agree that we need to paint the ceiling the same cream color that accents our house. The dark deck makes the rooms just inside sooo dark. I do like a bit of the dark trim on ur deck bc it blends in with the outside. If it were painted white it might be very bright and really stand out. (I think of it like the fencing we had at our previous home around our pool- the black fencing disappeared in the background of woods and landscaping- you never noticed it. But if it was a white fence- I feel that would really stand out and take away from the focal points in the yard.) I like the sky lights you have- brings in more light! So nice to see what my deck would look like if ceiling was painted a light color. If it still feels dark then I think we’ll think about popping in the sky lights. Thanks for the pics!

I've been living with it for a while now and love it just the way it is. Thanks for the input.

It looks very pretty! The three windows behind couch brighten up the space unlike mine which are trimmed in the same taupe as everything else on my porch. I need to get my ceiling painted ASAP! 😜
